kageyama's (asshole) pov~

he watches the rain drops fall on the sidewalk as he looks down. he has his hands in his pockets, his hoodie over his head, and a cold look on his face.

he meant everything he said.

or did he?

maybe he didn't mean every word he said, but he doesn't regret it.

maybe it's all better this way.

he didn't want to be hurt— and he didn't want to hurt you. he just wanted to be friends, not ending up liking you.

so maybe not even being friends would make things so much better. this way he can't hurt you, and this way you can't hurt him. this way it's better for the both of you– better for everyone.

his face doesn't move a muscle as he walks into the bus that stopped for him. he takes a seat in the back of the bus and looks out of the window.

that was the last time he would see you.

ever.

but it's for the best.

you two don't belong in each other's life's, the only thing it would bring was more hurt.

it's better this way.

once upon a time he thought that you would maybe like him back, that the feeling was mutual. once upon a time he really thought that maybe, even though you two were just friends, could be something more.

omce upon a time.

but once akaashi confessed to you— something he didn't even think would happen— that feeling went away. because there was no way you would like him if there was akaashi that likes you.

plus you had liked him back months ago so who says that wasn't the case anymore?

but when those words, those damn words, left your lips, saying that you don't like him but someone else, there was just this little bit of hope left in kageyama's mind– that little hope that you might like him in the same way as he likes you.

but as soon as you looked at oikawa, oikawa of all fucking people– he knew that wasn't the case either.

you like oikawa.

you never liked kageyama.

your heart always belonged to someone else– never once it crossed your mind that it could be kageyama.

how could he be so stupid for letting his feelings get this far?

love always hurts.

it always breaks everything.

and this was no other case of that.

kageyama couldn't believe his eyes when he saw you and oikawa walk in, the setter he hates the most, fucking oikawa.

but at that exact moment he still never would've thought that you would like him. that you would go as low as liking someone as stupid and terrible as oikawa.

and you've been texting him for months? really? oikawa was your number neighbour?

and even though kageyama damn well knows that he was the one that told you to make more friends– to tell you to talk to your number neighbour some more...

he'll never fucking admit it.

the bus takes a halt, and kageyama walks towards the exit.

"thanks," he says, holding up his hand. the man nods at the teen and drives away once kageyama is out of the bus.
