Today was finally the day the man had gathered every single ounce of his composure to have a totally normal, totally serene conversation with the girl who had been giving him so much trouble.
Well, not all of his composure.
There were still thoughts spiraling in his mind, through his bushy pigtails, down his neck, and into his shaky fingers as he loosely turned the wheel. He almost regretted not taking public transportation.
He was almost sure he had forgotten a document or two, or maybe did he leave his house keys on the counter again?
Damn, he really didn't know.
However, it was too late for any of that. He could already see the base of the building as he pulled up, wondering if maybe he could spot her out of her favorite seat.
Well, it couldn't have possibly be her favorite seat, she was sort of..."mandated" to reside there. But, it was a nice thought for a while.
Having parked, he finally entered the building, looking around the lobby area. It seemed emptier than usual, which was weird to him. Checking in, he saw Pavol at the desk, reading as usual. Trying to get his own mood up,he decided to pester her, leaning his elbow against the desk.
"Haven't finished reading that book yet, huh?"
Pavol really did not give two raggedy rat rumps about the comments Popee had towards her in the morning, unless it was important. Most of the stuff he said towards her in the morning wasn't that important anyhow.
She ceased her action of flipping a page, looking at him before taking a sip of her iced tea, glancing up at him.
"I don't know, haven't you got a love confession or something to work out?"
His eyebrows furrowed a bit in offense, leaning a bit closer.
"Hey, I am working on it-"
"You said the same thing to me yesterday when were on lunch break."
Thinking about it, he did say something similar to that.
"Well, things weren't as planned out as I wanted them to be during that time."
She smirked, intrigued.
"So what, did you have a grand revelation or something last night?"
He put a finger to his chin, trying to figure out the most non-"Pavol was right" way to say what he did last night.
...
"Uh..yeah."
She laughed, knowing she was right, unknowingly slapping the desk and accidentally slamming down on his hand, which also laid on the desk.
Popee pulled his hand back in pain, still upset at the fact that she still possessed that odd superhuman strength of hers. It was the equivalent of an elephant trunk swinging you into a brick wall.
He pulled in his breath, making that weird sizzle sound, and he shook his poor head, trying to see if it wasn't fractured.
Pavol looked at him, wiping a tear and watching him, a sour expression on his face.
"Oh. Sorry about that. I guess me being right was too humorous."
He groaned.
"Yeah, right."
She searched around for something on her desk, briefly handing it to him.
"Oh, don't be such a baby."
Popee took it, looking at a small tube of ointment in his left palm.
"That should reduce the swelling."
