The man approaches his home, shaking away the memory. He decided to be grateful for the few things he could keep in check, and smiled a little. He was thankful the street was empty.
He was thankful, grateful even.
The feeling didn't last long, however, as he paused in his tracks, upon seeing the thing stand on his porch, seemingly unaffected by the tender breeze around them.
"....Hello, Popee."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Popee's eye twitched, this being the last thing he expected from this evening.
"..."
"I'm..sorry it's taken so long.."
Popee couldn't do anything but gawk, any available words to use right now already spilling out a waterfall.
There was nothing but wind for a moment. One of the streetlamps fizzled out, blowing careless sparks underneath.
"I..I don't..I..."
The wolf realized it must be a lot."This..this is a joke, right?"
The young man adjusted himself, still in disbelief.
"No. At least, I don't think so."
They shared another long glance.
"..Just...just get inside." He said, feeling even more chills.
...
Popee leaned against the wall, not wanting to sit. He watched Kedamono on the sofa, Kedamono still tracking him with the mask. The mask looked faintly drawn, like a printer running out of ink.
It was too awkward.
"It's me, you..you know that, right?"
Popee's arms were crossed, eyes shifting back and forth as he faced the floor.
"..."
"...Popee?"
"Popee, I-"
He was soon interrupted by an uncertain cannon of questions.
"-Forget that. How did you get here...?? Where were you, exactly..?? Why don't you look different??""I know, this seems out of the blue, but..but I thought you were..uh, ready."
"Ready to What? Get a heart attack ?""Why do you have to be so grim about this?"
He pointed to his chest, shocked.
"I'm the one being grim here-??"He didn't answer.
"Kedamono, I thought you were DEAD."He didn't answer.
Popee, hypocritically not fond of blunt forces, watched him.He scoffed, breaking the period.
"Why are you so calm about this.....?" His voice sounded raspy and fatigued.
Why was he so calm about this?
It confused him. He didn't know whether to keep fighting and scold him or just stand there, lost in thought.
"I thought you'd be a different person, that's all."
He squinted his eyes, leaning in to practically bark more.
"That's your reasoning? What is that even supposed to mean?"
"I don't know, okay?"
...
Popee sighed again. He sat on the opposite end of the sofa, sulking.
"This is stupid."
Kedamono leaned on the arm's rest."Is that really what you think?"
"...Yeah."
