10 Years Later...
"This doesn't feel right." River deduced, her gaze trailing over the now decorated room.
"Something's wrong." Delilah added.
River nervously ran her tongue over her lower lip, trying to comprehend everything around her. Again, River scanned the room her and Delilah were standing in, seeking absolutely anything that was out of place or missing.
"I really wish we took longer with organising your clothes." River admitted, her heel subconsciously beginning to tremble.
"I don't think I've ever regretted not forgetting anything more than I am right now." Delilah confessed.
Yet again, River searched the room, her eyes beginning to burn. Just as every other time before, she found nothing wrong or able to fixed. Her heel began to shudder quicker with the rising sense of anxiety inside River.
"You know you can call me anytime, right?" River clarified, desperately trying to do anything to break the silence. "And Elijah bought you that car so you have no excuse not to visit."
"I know." Delilah answered, her voice cracking as she failed to contain her emotions.
"Fuck." River cursed under her breath, instantly turning to pull Delilah into her arms. Delilah was quick to bury her face against River's shoulder. River held Delilah as tightly as physically possible without hurting her.
"Hey maybe you can just do college again and then we can be roommates." Delilah suggested.
"Fuck no." River denied causing Delilah to laugh sadly. "I'm going to miss you so much." River started after she paused briefly.
"You have no idea." Delilah uttered.
A pained moment passed between them, neither River nor Delilah wanting to pull away first
"Okay we have to go." River decided, finally bringing herself to step back. "I figured out what this room needs."
"I'm driving." Delilah called.
That will never not be weird to me.
-----
"Hey technically I'm the age as you now." Delilah analysed as she dug her spoon the tub of ice-cream currently in front of them.
"Watch your mouth." River warned before returning her spoon between her lips. "Can you imagine how weird it will be when you're physically older than me?" River asked, deciding after a moment to entertain Delilah's thought.
"Well we don't actually ever need to get to that point." Delilah tempted. River instantly knew what she was referring to.
"As I have said many times," River began, stabbing her spoon into the ice-cream. "I'm not turning you until you after you graduate and you can decide it for yourself. I can't have you draining your new roommate before the poor girl even moves in now can I?"
"Poor girl?" Delilah challenged.
"Trust me." River started, "I shared a room and bed with you almost a year after mom and dad died. Let's just say your dirty clothes weren't cute by the end of it."
"I was 8." Delilah exclaimed.
"And I was traumatised." River countered.
"You're so mean." Delilah argued, hiding her smile with another spoonful of ice-cream.
"You're going to miss it when this new bitch is all fake and nice at the start." River deduced. "I'm starting to think she won't appreciate the sound of the filter in that fish tank."
