"You should wear that." Kol decided causing River to flinch at the sound of his voice.

"Okay you need to stop sneaking in through my window." She stated, walking over to close the window Kol had left open.

"What are you going to do?" Kol challenged, "Are you going to punish me? Because that's kind of hot."

"I'm going to bolt my window shut and spike your ball-shaving-cream with vervain." River deadpanned.

"I do not-" Kol started but was cut off.

"Shhh." River hushed, covering his mouth with her hand, "You're so much prettier when you aren't arguing with me."

"I'm pretty either or." Kol mumbled before River cut his thoughts off by kissing him. Kol was quick to wrap his arms around River's waist, pulling their bodies together which allowed River to relax under his hold, her hand coming up to cup his neck, the other resting on the upper part of his chest.

Kol muffled his moan against River's lips as River tugged Kol's hair gently, simultaneously rolling up onto the tips of her toes to deepen their kiss. Not appreciating the interference River's height was causing, Kol then picked River up by the backs of her thighs, causing River to instinctively wrap her legs around his hips.

River then tightened her hold around his neck. Wanting to take things further, Kol then walked himself and River over to her bed, dropping River down to the cushioning before crawling on top of her. As Kol returned his lips to hers, one of his hands beginning to trail the skin under her shirt, they were ever so rudely interrupted.

"Can you-" River's mother started as she entered River's room. "Oh for fucks sake." She deadpanned, running her hand down her face as though it would erase the image now burnt into her mind.

"Mom." River greeted, shoving Kol who had begun to move his hand which was under her shirt again, off of her harshly.

"Oh Jesus." She muttered, unable to replace the scene in her mind. "I would just like to say I called it." River's mom stated conclusively before leaving the room.

River merely groaned, her body going limp and collapsing to the bed beneath her once her mom had closed the door behind her.

"Did you hear her coming?" River questioned, propping up her head enough to see Kol who was standing at the end of her bed awkwardly.

"Well I was rather distracted, Darling." Kol explained, gesturing to River. This only made River groan louder before dropping her head back to the bed. "Do you want me to compel her?" Kol asked genuinely.

"No compelling my family members." River reminded, sitting up enough to take Kol's hand, pulling him back over her as she lay down.

"I'm sorry." Kol mumbled, nuzzling into the crook of River's neck.

"Don't be sorry." River reassured, running her hand up and down his back.

"Yeah okay that's enough of that." Kol uttered after a moment, pushing himself up. "Can we pick up where we left off now or-" Kol trailed off.

and they say chivalry is dead.

"Hi." Delilah chirped as she ran into River's room.

"Hello, Munchkin." Kol greeted as he fed River yet another fry. Delilah was quick to then throw herself onto River's bed, flopping down onto base of the bed before crawling the short distance so that she was laying over where Kol and River's bodies were overlapping.

"I have a question." Delilah continued.

"Ask away." River reassured as she pulled herself closer to Kol, doing her best to avoid getting her hair, which was still wet from their shower, on him.

"But that's what mom said as well." Delilah whined.

"Why didn't mom answer your question then if you've already asked her?" River challenged.

"She said to ask you, especially if that boy was still in your room, but I think she was just talking about Kol." Delilah explained.

"So what's your question?" Kol asked, trying to feed River yet another fry which constituted part of the meal Kol had had delivered when River said she was hungry.

"Where do babies come from?" Delilah deadpanned causing River to choke on the fry she was eating whilst Kol just looked at her blankly.

"How old are you?" Kol questioned, narrowing his eyes at her.

"Seven." Delilah clarified.

"I knew when I was seven." River confirmed when Kol turned to her.

"Why did you know when you were seven?" Kol questioned.

"Because unlike they do now, 10 years ago my parents didn't just take 'work trips' whenever they were completing trial runs  for-" She trailed off, her gaze flickering over to the child in front of them.

"You do know I'm not blind or deaf right?" Delilah questioned, "I understood all of that."

"Then let's hope you understand this." River started as she sat up, mentally preparing herself for the conversation they were about to have.

Lord give me strength.

-----

"I think we traumatised her." River decided as she and Kol watched Delilah who was rocking back and forth in the corner of River's room, cradling the emotional support milkshake Kol had bought her when Delilah learnt what the scrotum did when the male body's temperature was elevated.

"Maybe she just needs a demonstration." Kol proposed, half sarcastically, half not.

"You disgust me." River deadpanned, slapping away his hand which was reaching towards her.

"I'm never having sex." Delilah announced. "Never ever." She confirmed.

"Our goal has been reached." Kol concluded happily.

"A job well done." River confirmed, high-fiving him.

"I think I'm going to dagger Kol again." Nik decided.

"I'll help." Rebekah offered, staring blankly at the wall opposite her.

"Nobody is daggering anyone." Elijah clarified, his gaze flicking over to Finn who had tensed as soon as the concept had been mentioned.

"We'll wait until Kol returns with River." Rebekah added, "Then I'll coat the dagger in white oak ash myself."

"Rebekah." Elijah warned.

"I'm kidding." Rebekah deadpanned. "Mostly." She added quietly.

"Nobody is daggering anyone." Elijah repeated slightly louder, his inner vampire fighting off his agreement as the attachment of the newly completed bond affected his mind.

Before anymore dagger threats could be made, the doorbell rang, interrupting their argument.

"That must be them." Finn concluded.

"There is no way Kol forgot his keys again." Rebekah cursed. Nik was the first to reach the door, opening it almost instantaneously.

As soon as Nik opened the door his expression fell. Nik narrowed his eyes at the stranger on his doorstep. He fought the urge to flash his hybrid eyes at the man, recalling that River had told him not to scare away all strangers. However, it wasn't River's previous encouragement that had stopped him,

There was something else about this man...

Something strange.

Something different.

Something familiar, almost.

When the painful realisation hit Nik, his gaze faltered slightly.

"Henrik?"
