I'm really hoping you guys pick up on the 2 things I love about this chapter + there's an Easter egg

July 23rd, 2020

Jo slipped on her running shoes and tied the left one that had come undone again, for what felt like the tenth time that week. They were in New York because Taylor was ready to release folklore, and they'd been there about two weeks already.

"I'll be back in a bit, babe!" Jo called out, checking the time on her watch as she stood in the doorway and reached for her car keys on the decorative table by the door.

"Bye, baby! I'll just be here announcing an album!"

Jo laughed and replied, "You enjoy that, I'll bring back celebratory cheese. I love you!"

Jo left the penthouse and headed to the parking garage that wasn't in their building but a short walk away, waving at their elderly neighbour from opposite ends of the elevator who they had more than once brought dinner down to because her son was a doctor and had been keeping his distance to keep her safe.

"You need anything from the store? Taylor and I have a grocery order in, I can add to it if you need something," Jo asked, keeping her distance regardless of the fact they were both wearing masks.

"No, I'm okay. Thank you, though. Very nice of you to offer," Beatrice, the older woman answered quietly, "I haven't been doing too much cooking between you two and the frozen stuff in my freezer."

"Well when you need something just let us know, we're happy to pick it up for you," the brunette offered as the doors opened, "You heading to the park again?"

"You should know by now," Beatrice laughed and nodded. She was a creature of habit, everyday the same short walk to the park down the road and back.

"Enjoy, I'll see you soon."

Jo pulled her car out of one of their parking spaces and kept her mask, sunglasses and hat on. Security was off due to the pandemic and paparazzi or fans were the absolute last things we wanted to see today of all days.

Jo used the hands free controls to call Jack Antonoff, anxiously tapping at the steering wheel, "Dude, you on your way?"

"I just got it. You're going to fucking love it I think," he began, sounds coming through that led her to believe he had just closed his car door, "I'll meet you in fifteen."

"Wear a mask, hat and sunglasses. I don't want people to see us."

Jack did exactly that. He pulled his car up next to Jo's in the Walgreens parking lot, looked around before he opened his door and tried to jump into Jo's.

"It's locked!" He pointed at the lock in a repeating gesture until Jo realized and fumbled her hand over to the switch to open it.

"Sorry, it's habit to lock it again," Jo chuckled nervously, "Where is it?"

"Nice to see you too," he huffed as his butt landed on the leather seat, "When are you getting back into the studio?"

"Soon enough. Let me see it please."

"You know, I didn't have to do this favour for you. You could like, do a song with me in exchange," he continued to avoid the pressing subject.

"Jack, I swear to god if you don't show me the ring right now I'm going to kick you out of the car," Jo laughed but she was a little annoyed.

It was a big moment, the first time she was going to see the ring she was going to propose with. The one that would hopefully be on Taylor's hand for the rest of their lives.
