Annies POV

All my life I've envisioned what my biological mother would look like. Would I have her hair? Her eyes? Her smile? The thoughts would quickly disappear from my mind because honestly, I don't care. Demi is my mother.

But now, as she stands one foot away from me, I'm overwhelmed by emotions. I have no idea how to feel about this at all.

I opened my mouth so say something, but nothing came out. Thankfully, I heard my favorite voice ask, "Annie, who's this?"

I looked behind me as Demi put her hands on each one of my shoulders, pulling me into her.

How do I answer that? Do I say my mother?

"I'm her biological mother, Lisa." The woman smiled.

Demi's hands tightened around my shoulders and I sucked in a deep breath, nervous for what was to come next.

Demi's POV

I knew before I even approached Annie who the woman she was talking too was. I could tell by the blue eyes and the blonde hair. She was a pretty woman, but nothing compared to her gorgeous daughter.

"Why are you here?" I questioned.

"I sent a letter or two, hoping to hear a response. I got a notification letter from the adoption center letting me know it had been delivered, and when I didn't get a response, I decided I had to just track her down."

My eyebrows furrowed, "What letters?"

I've never received anything from the adoption clinic sense I brought Annie home years ago.

"They sent you letters trying to get in touch with you both but I didn't get a reply."

Annie tensed under my touch and sucked in a breath. I connected two and two together and slowly started figuring out...

"Annie, do you know anything about the letters?"

She remained quiet and shrugged a little bit. She hid that from me?! Why wouldn't she tell me that?! Are you kidding me?!

"Annie! Why wouldn't you tell me?!"

She shook her head and looked down. I guess I can lecture her about this later.

"Anyway," Lisa interrupted, "I'm stable now. I have support."

"I don't know what you're trying to say." I spoke, trying to remain as calm as possible. On the inside, I'm freaking out. I know Annie loves me but I'm scared she wants another shot at her biological family.

"I'm saying I want to start seeing Annie."

Exactly what I was afraid of. I looked down at Annie and she looked so confused. Eventually, Annie shook her head and backed away from 'Lisa.'

"Annie.." Lisa frowned.

Annie wrapped her arm around my waist and put her head into my shoulder. "I want to leave. I want away from her."

I sighed in relief and nodded. "I'll get you home, baby."

"What's going on?" I looked over and thankfully saw Wilmer approaching us.

"Don't take her away." Lisa seethed through her teeth. "I will get her back."

She's crazy. She's acting psycho.

"Lisa, I think you need to go home." I calmly stated. "Annie is my daughter, not yours."

"I will get her back." She said, stepping forward so she's almost nose to nose with me. "And there's nothing you can do to stop me."

"Can we get some security over here?!" Wilmer called, pulling Annie away from me. "I'm going to take her home."

"I will come and get her because she's mine and she needs to come home with me and-"

I gently stepped away from her, even though I'm actually scared out of my mind. I have no idea what boundaries this woman would cross to get Annie back.

Before I knew it, security guards were pulling her away as she was lashing at them. That was eventful.

I turned around and saw Wilmers arms around Annie as she was crying into him. My heart has been shattered.

"Baby," I said, rushing over to her side. "Come here."

She latched her shaking body onto mine and it was no secret how scared she was.

"Shh, it's okay."

I need to get home but I know I can't leave this concert. I have no idea what to do.

"I'm gonna take her home." Wilmer repeated. "Hurry and perform, then come see her. It's not safe for her to be in public right now."

I squeezed Annie tighter, afraid of letting go. I don't want anything to come in between us at all.

I gave her a final kiss on the top of her head, "I love you, Annie Marie. I'll be home so soon, okay?"

She nodded and pulled away from me, her bloodshot eyes making my heart drop.

And then I watched them both walk away.

Annie's POV

Even though I know my real mom isn't going to track us down or kill us or do anything that psychotic, I'm still terrified. Just kidding. I'm actually not sure if she would do all of that or not.. I guess the whole situation shook me up. Everything is scaring me.

I watched the black night go by quickly in the passenger seat of Wilmers car. Right now reminds me of a scary movie where their car stalls, or really even Twilight. I just want Demi.

Every pot hole or super sharp curve almost sense me into a frenzy. I'm so on edge, I'm shaking and sweating. To some this may not seam like a big deal, but my biggest fear is being taken away from Demi. I'm terrified because I don't know what my biological mother is capable of.

After what feels like forever, Wilmer pulls into our driveway. Home. Finally. I've never been so thankful to see this house.

I jumped out of the car and hurriedly went to Wilmer's side, nervously looking around to see if anyone was watching. The wind was hella horrible and I think if it was any harder, we would've blown away.

Wilmer opened the door for me as we walked into the house.

"I'll go downstairs and-" Wilmer started, but I cut him off.

"No!" I grabbed onto his arm. "Will you just go upstairs with me?"

His eyes shown sympathy as he nodded, "Of course."

We only parted ways when I sprinted to my room to change clothes, but I was back in his and Demi's room in no time.

I climbed into their big bed, snuggling up in the middle. No, I've never slept in the same bed as Wilmer but it won't be weird. The bed is huge enough that he won't even know I'm here.

Wilmer came in from the bathroom and shut off the lights but the exception of a little night light, turned the fan on, and climbed into bed.

"Goodnight, Annie."

"Night, Wilmer."

I stared up at the ceiling, wishing that Demi would just be here already.

I was sort of drifting off into a sleep, when Wilmer's phone started buzzing on the side table.

I could feel the bed shift as he reached for it, then said, "Hello?"

I could hear Demi on the other line clear as day. "Make sure the alarm system is on and the doors are locked! I'm trying to hurry home but her other mother is going to beat me!"

Shock and fear consumed my body.

I didn't know why I was afraid earlier, but no doubt should I be now.
