Memories were Link's only gateway into the life he led 100 years ago. Throughout his quest, he came across many, each building upon a distant life that gradually became clearer. He had never spent much time thinking about the Champions who had once been his close friends or the Princess he had protected, but something in his mind shifted after the completion of Vah Medoh.

From the very first night after he had successfully freed the last Divine Beast from Ganon's control, whispers from Princess Zelda would creep into the deepest parts of his mind, and nearly every time he slept, he would hear her, and she would always tell him the same thing.

"Ganon is growing stronger."

Not a single night passed by that he didn't hear her at least once, but this night...it was different. There was a whisper again. It was faint but ever so present as he slept soundly by your side. However, the voice he heard began to resonate and grow louder with every strike of a second.

"Link," the voice told him as it overpowered the sleeping state he was in. It repeated itself, and what was once an echoed sound became something far more desperate and transparent.

"Link, please," she pleaded with so much anguish it caused Link to open his eyes.

A void of darkness surrounded him, and slowly, glowing flecks of malice and purple entered his vision as he turned to face the girl speaking to him. The moment his eyes landed on her, his heart stopped.

Link had only ever seen her through the counted memories he had acquired, but Princess Zelda looked as clear as day, kneeling feet away from him. Her long blonde hair, which once held the vibrancy of the golden sun, rippled over her slumped shoulders as her hands trembled. She looked worn out, nearing the edge of exhaustion, and yet, she picked up her head to look at her swordsman.

"Princess," Link mumbled, and the sound of his voice seemed to wash heartbreaking relief over her. A smidge of sparkle returned to her beautiful blue eyes, which he could see even through the floating strips of purple that swirled around her.

"Ganon," Zelda clutched the necklace around her neck, "he knows you've taken the Divine Beasts from him. Link, I can't keep him tethered here much longer. I...I need you–"

The shrieking sound of Calamity Ganon pierced through her words. Link's head whipped up instantly, but whatever was there could only be seen by Princess Zelda as she moved to gaze at the beast she had kept under straps for 100 years. Her eyes went wide, and the golden glow of weakening power was the last thing Link saw as tendrils of purple grew thick around her.

When his eyes opened again, he was back in the open, with a starry sky over him and trees around. His heart rate had accelerated beyond imagination, and the cold sweat that formed in his hands damped the hem of your tunic he had unknowingly clutched. Link then made a move to sit up and look around as a way of making sure he was awake. There was no malice, no horrifying cry, and...no Princess Zelda. Nothing save the sound of a dying fire that lay a few feet away and your light groan as you shifted in sleep kept him grounded.

"A dream," he whispered quietly to himself, but he knew it was much more than that. He had been there. Somehow, Princess Zelda had appeared to him, and all that echoed in his mind were her words–her anguished voice. I need you. That's what she had told him, and his mind started to revolve around it.

Link grabbed his Sheikah Slate and checked his location. He was still so far from Hyrule Castle, but he glanced up in the direction it would be in.

"I'll be there soon," he swore, hoping the wind would carry his words to the Princess he had protected a century past and the one he was starting to remember more clearly.
