Wails of Fear: 41
Lucas tiredly slumped down on his emperor chair in the study, feeling worn out from all of the unexpected events that happened today. It was half past midnight when he finally managed to gasp for air.
The minutes ticked silently giving the King enough time to redeem his energy, slowly. His eyes were bloody red when he opened his eyes to see who knocked on his door at that time only to find Alaia peaking inside, worried.
Lucas's lips barely tugged up into a smile as he simply nodded for her to come in.
" How are you, brother? " Alaia smiled hoping to boost her brother, who sighed but made no action to lift himself from his worn-out position.
" Not better but fine. "
" How is... " Alaia seemed to hesitate to ask. She wasn't sure if she was at a place to ask if everything was alright.
" She's not fine... " Lucas mumbled after a deep silence reading his sister's hesitancy and smiled turning to look at her.
" I'm sorry... I shouldn't have taken her out today at first. " Alaia mumbled feeling guilty to which Lucas shook his head gently telling that it was fine again.
" It was neither your fault nor her's. It's okay... "
" Will...will Calix come back? " Alaia asked after a few minutes staring down at her fingers. Hearing the once bubbly voice now filled with dread, the King could only gulp.
Lucas didn't answer her question as she, gulping at the awkward silence of her brother, tilted her head sideways to glance at him, staring at a wall, his eyes blank but cold.
" Brother... "
" He will come. Yeah. "
" Brother, please... " Alaia walked to her brother and squeezed his hands with both of hers, pleading for him to stay strong. " I'm not sure what's going on. But remember what Grandpa always said. Everything will be alright no matter what. "
Lucas stared at her pleading eyes and finally made a move to caress his sister's cheek.
" You've grown so much..." his lips tugged a small smile that Alaia returned with a small chuckle.
" Thank you. "
Lucas tiredly walked out of his study after an hour of being involuntarily out of work that others called taking a rest. A deadly silence surrounded the castle while he had to take deep breaths to often pull himself out of the blood-curling screams of his beloved Queen that still rang around the back of his head.
It was like an unwanted broken record that looped only her screams and pleas for everyone to let her be alone.
Lucas wasn't sure if he was scared of the deadly, terrifying screams because they were horrifying or was actually scared to feel the pain of his heart breaking on listening to the screams.
It took nearly five hours for Ava to fall into a deep slumber which also was not because she was exhausted but because of the charm that Lucas jinxed her with, afraid of her horrific outburst.
When Lucas arrived at the foothills a few hours ago, Calix was beyond pleased to greet him with a handshake, bowing slightly.
" You're handsome as always I see, King Aston. " Calix maliciously commented, his eyes still boring through the dark glass of the car which was the only thing that was between him and the Queen which unknowingly stirred the unnamed sense at the bottom of the King's heart.
Lucas had only a single thought in his head and that was to keep the Queen as far as possible from his cousin.
" It's nice to see you after a long time, Calix. " Lucas grunted staring behind his back at the four guards, who still had their guns pointed at Isaac.
