I can hear a beeping sound that awoke me from my deep slumber. Slowly, I open my eyes and blink a few times to adjust to the light coming from the ceiling.
Dahan dahan ko din inangat ang kamay ko at tinanggal ang oxygen na nakakabit sa bibig ko. Sakto naman na bumukas ang pinto kaya napunta duon ang tingin ko.
Ma..
She looked surprised that she ran away after seeing me awake. I inhaled and exhaled while rubbing my head, which has gauze. I also have dextrose on my hand that I want to pull out, but when I am about to do so, the door suddenly burst open and a doctor and a bunch of nurses came in.
They did some checking and asked me questions that I answered correctly. The doctor just talked to my mother and said something before they all left the room.
"Kamusta ang pakiramdam mo?"
"I'm fine. Where's Dad?"
"Kakaalis lang kanina dahil may problema sa office. Nagugutom ka ba?"
I stare at my mother, and seeing the dark circles under her eyes proves that she's not getting enough sleep.
"Ilang...araw na po tayo dito?"
"One week."
Namilog ang mga mata ko. It can't be! Naalarma si mama dahil basta ko nalang tinanggal ang nakakabit sa akin at nagpumilit na bumaba ng hospital bed.
"Let me go! Addison needs me!"
"Anak! Calm down."
"Ma, she's in danger."
"Juztine, everything is fine. Don't be impulsive, okay? Look at you; you're not even better, so stay put and listen to me!"
Our seemingly growing banter was cut off when the door opened again, revealing the face of the man I had seen before I lost consciousness.
Our mother cleared her throat and caressed my back.
"I forgot to mention. Your brother is back for good, and he's the one who rescued you."
I clenched my jaw and balled my fists. I gently pushed Mom away before standing up to go to my brother.
Without a word, I let my fist meet his face, causing him to stumble back, and there I heard Mom scream in horror.
Umayos ako ng tayo at pinagmasdan ang Kuya ko na gulat na gulat habang hawak ang labi nyang pumutok.
"Juztine! Ano ka ba?!"- suway ni mama at alam kong pinipigilan lang nya na paluin ako dahil hindi pa ako nakakabawi ng lakas.
"Chineck ko lang kung totoong mukha ba nya yan. Baka kasi nag iimagine lang ako."- kibit balikat na sabi ko bago ako lumapit ng maayos dito at tinignan pa din ito ng seryoso.
"Okay na po ma. Iwan mo na po muna kami ni Juztine."- sabi nya.
"Mag behave kayo ha. Ikaw naman,"- humarap sakin si mama at pinaningkitan ako ng mata. "Hindi ka pa magaling, wag ka manakit dahil Kuya mo pa din yan. Mag usap kayo ng maayos ha."
We watched her leave. I rolled my eyes when he looked back at me. I didn't say a word and just went back to the bed.
"Hey.."- he starts, but I didn't respond.
Naghila sya ng upuan at naupo sa tabi ng kama ko. Pinunasan muna nya ang labi nya gamit ang tissue na kinuha nya dun sa box bago ako nginitian.
"You mature physically. And, oh, you hit me pretty hard. I thought my teeth would break."- he said, chuckling.
