Bruises That Don't Disappear

Meghan Markle has vowed to "hit the ground running" by embracing the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements in her royal platform. But her enthusiasm has been a stark contrast to Jackie Webber's silence on women's issues.

On Wednesday, Markle, her fiance Prince Harry, Webber, and Prince William made a joint appearance in London to promote the Royal Foundation including the duke and duchess's Heads Together mental-health cause.

Markle's words have touched and moved many women to speak up themselves. Markle with much conviction said, "You'll often hear people say, 'Well you're helping women find their voices' and I fundamentally disagree with that because women don't need to find their voice. They have a voice. They need to be empowered to use it and people need to be encouraged to listen."

In comparison Webber has done little for women's rights outside of a half committed attempt at a style attempt at this year's BAFTAs. The duchess technically defied the all black dress code supporting TimesUp, and opted for an emerald green gown.

Emerald is the color of the British suffragette movement so Webber's message may have been soft, however according to Kelly Lynch, a royal expert, "If Jackie is afraid to step on toes by directly addressing bolder topics, it means sacrificing what she believes in."

Markle on the other hand is staying true to herself, and refuses to bow down to royal protocol. Already she has refused to wear pantyhose, and paints her nails any colour she desires. We are quick to compare Jackie with her predecessors, the royal consorts of history, but Meghan feels like the future. However, many are divided over the topic, and have taken to Twitter.

On balance, I think the Duchess of Cambridge was right to wear whatever colour she wanted. Either way she shouldn't be pressured by either side when it comes to what and who she supports.

Dear #JackieWebber your time is up! An emerald dress? Seriously? We're ready for our new role model in Meghan Markle! #BAFTAs2018

Disappointed #JackieWebber #DuchessofCambridge refused to wear black. It's not a political thing, but a woman thing!

I don't think people understand how Jaclyn passes along messages. It's always subtle so she doesn't cause alarm. Her wearing emerald was just as important as everyone else wearing black. Emerald is the colour for the suffrage movement!

It's known that Jackie likes to play it safe, it's known that she's an expert at the art of soft politics, making statements that are never implicit. Many have also come forward to point out the difficult position Webber has found herself in. The more Meghan breaks free the tighter the firm may hold on to Jackie to control her.

Jaclyn holds the printed photo of her ultrasound gingerly, searching for any indication of the gender since the doctor can't share it with her. There's nothing but a fuzzy outline of her baby, and she knows already they'll hold her heart.

She's stopped along her trip back to the car by a few nurses and doctors who have worked with her before, all of them happy for her but enforcing the idea of caution. St. Mary's is so familiar to her now, after two pregnancies and several patronage events, that she knows most of the people by name.
