Chapter 34

The group made it back to the compartment where Dudley and Amy lay asleep.

Lady Beatrice, Lady Ginevra and Lady Henrietta were already there.

"Did you do it then?" said Newton. 

"We did. It was a simple method, but now it's only a matter of waiting for him to wake" said Lady Beatrice. 

Angelique sat on the bed and held Dudley's hand. 

"Mon cher Dudley... I am with you" she whispered. 

Newton lifted Amy away from Dudley so Angelique could have him to herself for a while.

As she was being lifted, Amy woke up.

"What's going on?" she said.

"Shh. The families are alright, love. The betrothal is abolished" said Newton.

"Does that mean Angelique and Henri aren't getting married?" said Amy.

"Yes, mon cherie. Now she and I both have our true loves" said Camille holding Newton's hand. 

"And I've made several new friends" finished Atticus. 

"Newton... you have been working to give this child a home" said Camille.

"Yes" said Newton.

Camille faced Amy. "Mon enfant... would you like to join our family?"

Amy looked at the people around her. "Really?"

"Certainly. Angelique and I will be your loving sisters. I think that would be perfect for you" said Camille.

Amy smiled. "I'd love that, Camille."

Camille gave the sweet girl a big hug to welcome her into her family. 

Angelique smiled up at the others, then looked back at Dudley. 

"I am with you..." she said again. 

She stroked Dudley's blonde hair and never took here eyes off his sleeping face.

Then she noticed that Dudley was starting to wake up. 

So Angelique put his glasses on for him to spare his strength. 

Dudley opened his eyes and saw the face of his beautiful love. 

"Angelique..." he whispered. 

"Dudley" Angelique whispered back. 

Dudley sat up and ran his hand through Angelique's blonde hair. 

"You've come back" he said.

"Of course. I will never leave you again" said Angelique. 

"And I thought it was my turn to leave" said Dudley.

"My aunts have saved you. And we are together now. I love you, mon cher Dudley" said Angelique.

"My darling Angelique... I love you too" said Dudley. 

He drew her in towards him and kissed her lips. 

Of course, Angelique was happy enough to kiss back.

Soon after this, Dudley was well enough to dance with Angelique in the gardens of Paris. 

Camille and Newton were also dancing in the same area. 

Atticus and Amy were watching hand in hand.

"Are they gonna live happily ever after?" said Amy.

"I don't see why they wouldn't, m'love" said Atticus. 

The three ladies were also watching the whole thing.

Lady Ginevra was drying her eyes with her hanky. 

"Why, Ginevra, what's the matter, dear?" said Lady Beatrice.

"I just love happy endings" Lady Ginevra cried.

"Yes. We all love happy endings" said Lady Henrietta. 

The three of them admired 

Amy had a family in all the people she met.

The Rodriguezes and the Babineauxs had finally negotiated peace.

Atticus Penmbroke now had friends to look up to.

And Dudley Leicester and Newton Weekes, once lonely stage actors abandoned by their troupe, had finally found the loves of their lives. 

There were happy endings all around. What could happen?
