Today was the 14th of February, and a Friday night.

By all accounts, this should have been a perfect day for a wild variety of proper celebration. With plenty of couples discounts and consumer attractions to be taken advantage of, no work awaiting them for the weekend, and most important no meetings, leaving them completely free to choose how to spend Valentine's day between themselves.

They could have gone to a bar, gone clubbing even, to take the edge off and live for a night like the wild party animal teenagers they technically embodied. Gone for wine and fancy dinner if they wanted to be classy, gone for the carnival happening right across town just to walk around even.

Instead, Russia was sprawled out on the couch in pajamas, brain-dead watching the TV drone on, hair messily unbrushed, takeaway containers of soup and ice cream scattered across the table in front of him. He stared on blankly at whatever character was currently on scene yapping away, and then gave the can of whipped cream in his hand a noisy shake, tipping his head backward with one finger pressing on the button and sprayed a swirl of cream straight into his mouth.

"Can you pass the ice cream?" Germany asked, from the opposite end of the couch, in the exact same position as him. Propped up with fluffy pillows and bundled in blankets, inky black hair curling and tousled in every possible direction, glasses perched on the bridge of his nose currently stuffed with a tissue.

"Mango sorbet or Rocky Road?" Russia asked back, holding up two tubs.

"Whichever you're not eating right now-" Germany said, hands outstretched. Russia passed over the rocky road ice cream, and somewhat reluctantly the can of whipped cream, watching as his boyfriend sprayed on swirls round and round over his ice cream, finally stopping once he pretty much had a mountain's worth on top, digging his spoon in to get a massive mouthful.

For the first time that they had a Valentine's Day free to themselves in years, with no international meeting or trip to New York necessary, they had the horrible misfortune of both falling sick, with sore throats and high fevers taking them out without much resistance.

Neither of them really complained, though. They just shook hands and decided that this year's Valentine's anniversary was a celebration staying in, cozy at home, eat whatever they felt like eating, an opportunity to recharge their social batteries.

"How's yours?" Germany piped up again after a while of blissful quiet, nodding his head in the direction of the tub of ice cream in Russia's hands.

"'s good." He mumbled back, with a mouthful of mango goodness, scrapping his spoon along the sides to get every bit.

"Lemme try some?"

"... eat your own-" Russia said with narrowed eyes and slight possessiveness, lightly kicking Germany's leg reprimandingly underneath the large blanket they were sharing. Germany gasped with fake appal, lips curling in a sharp Cheshire grin even as he tilted his head to the side displaying naivety. "I just want a little bit to try, Ru-"
