The night had been unusually cool in the Glade, and as the sun began to rise, a chilling silence hung over the camp. The maze doors had closed hours ago, and the Gladers were starting their morning routines. Newt was busy organizing supplies when he noticed something troubling—one of the runners was missing. It was then that Minho, looking more concerned than usual, approached him.
"Newt, we've got a problem," Minho said, his voice tense. "Y/n didn't come back from the maze last night."
Newt's eyes widened with alarm. "What do you mean, didn't come back?"
"I mean they stayed out there. I don't know why. I checked the maps and asked around, but no one saw them come through."
Newt's heart pounded as he immediately took action. "We need to get a search party together. If they're still out there, we have to find them."
The morning sunlight was barely reaching the maze walls as Newt and a small team of Gladers, including Minho, ventured out into the maze. Newt's mind raced with worry as they navigated the ever-changing pathways, the cold sweat of fear mingling with the early morning dew.
After what felt like hours, they finally found you, huddled against a wall in a shadowy corner of the maze. Your clothes were damp from the night's cold, and you were shivering despite the warmth of the morning sun. Newt's relief was palpable, but so was his anger. He hurried to your side, his face a mix of concern and frustration.
"Y/n! What in the name of the Maze do you think you're doing?" Newt's voice was a strained mix of worry and reprimand as he crouched beside you.
You looked up, tired and cold, but there was a faint hint of defiance in your eyes. "I didn't mean to—"
"No, you didn't mean to," Newt cut in sharply, his frustration evident. "But you could've been killed out here. The maze isn't a place for games or dares. It's dangerous, and you're not invincible."
"I'm sorry, Newt," you mumbled, your voice barely audible. "I just... needed to be alone for a while."
Newt's expression softened slightly as he took in your weary form. "Look, I get that sometimes you need space. But the maze isn't the place to find it. You're a part of this community, and we need to look out for each other."
You nodded, feeling a pang of guilt. "I know. I didn't think it through."Minho, standing nearby, stepped forward and put a supportive hand on your shoulder.
"Let's get you back to the Glade. You need to warm up and rest."
As you slowly made your way back to the camp, Newt walked beside you, his anger giving way to a more supportive demeanor. "You're lucky we found you before anything serious happened. I'm not mad, just... worried. We all are. Next time, just come to us if you need space. We can help."
You looked at Newt, grateful for his understanding despite the initial reprimand. "Thanks, Newt. I will."
Back in the Glade, Newt made sure you were settled comfortably and took time to talk with you, understanding why you had felt the need to spend the night alone. The experience had been a wake-up call for both of you, reminding you of the importance of communication and support in the dangerous world of the maze.
Newt's caring side was evident as he kept a close eye on you, making sure you were alright and comfortable. His concern for your well-being was clear, and despite his initial anger, his priority was always to ensure you were safe and taken care of.
