Six months later, Elle is back in North America. Her Dad was quite sad when she bid him goodbye but
was happy that his daughter is ready to face the world again. She decided not to go back to
Ashburnham Place but instead, shared a condo with her cousin Allison in the suburbs.
After 18 months and a rigid rehab program, she was fitted with a prosthetic for her right leg. It was not
easy but Elle understood what it takes to have a new leg. She showed willingness and resilience to
learn and do everything to regain her independence. She faced the pains of having a fiberglass for a
leg with gusto, rather than complain about the blisters that she initially got wearing it. After all, this
blisters were nothing compared to being broken hearted not so long ago. That pain can only be
numbed with passing of days, weeks, months, and years.
In no time at all, Elle is walking again.
In the early days of having prosthestics, she walked with a subtle limp as she was still finding her
balance. But as life's best secret knowledge, constant practice makes everything perfect and
automatic. Soon, Elle wouldn't stand out in a crowd of people with perfect legs anymore. She already
learned the art of assimilation. With a newly acquired driver's license, Elle is now a picture of an
independent lady who seemed to have made a turnaround with life.
That school term, she began her life as a university freshman at Wyerson U in Social Work. After her
life-changing experience, Elle felt she will further thrive not as an Arts student but as a servant to
humanity. But she does painting on the side as this has helped her push her advocacy... to help other
amputees like her. As if fate is really against their meeting each other again, Kerr finished his
engineering degree from Wyerson U a year ago. To further his experience in construction, he accepted
a posting in Zimbabwe, an African country where they will build schools and health care centres for
poor villages sponsored by Children's Educational Foundation (CEF).
Kerr found solace and refuge with building schools and clinics for the unfortunates. He found comfort
in helping the villagers to have a second chance in life through their children. Building schools and
clinics closer to where they live gave these people a better chance with education and good health.
Africa gave meaning to his life, where he also discovered solitude that evaded him for such a long
time. Peace lives in his heart ...for almost 3 years now.
Writer's message:
Our two characters are getting there. As I have stated previously, I believe in happy endings. But Kerr
is in Africa while Elle is in Canada. We're talking about 2 continents here! What will I do to make their
paths crossed again? Any suggestions readers?
And also, what are your favourite lines in this chapter?
I have highlighted mine.
I hope that you will continue reading KerrElle's lovestory.
For those of you who did, thank you guys!
