"So... you're not mad at me?"

You smiled warmly as you laid Steven down, tucking him into his bed.

"Of course not. (Name) can't be mad at Steven for fearing the future." You assured gently, ruffling his hair with a free paw.

"But even then... Don't let the unknown seize control like that again." You reached back and handed him his Master of Ceremonies Bear Bear. "Just focus on growth and take things as they come. (Name) will try to protect him from whatever the future has to throw at him. "

"...yeah..." Steven gave a bit of a weighted smile as he took the bear.

You smiled and made your way down the stairs, taking a moment to check on Spinel who was still wringing her pigtails out.

"I'm just glad it's all done with." She muttered in a grump, shaking her head to rid herself of the remaining rain water. "Yeesh, here I thought future vision would be a handy thing to have... but all's it does is make ya scared of everything."

"It probably is useful, Spinny." You assured her, grabbing a nearby blanket, gingerly wrapping it around her. "But it all comes down to who can handle what can be seen."

"I guess so..." She muttered, laying herself down, pulling the blanket up over her head. "...bet you can handle it, (Nickname)!" She beamed up at you with confidence. "We'd always be safe if you were the one with future vision!"

You chuckled, a bit uneasy with the idea. Sure it was a rather nifty ability on paper, but in hindsight, the ability to see the future was the LAST thing you needed. Especially with your current state and growing instinct...

"...(Name) can protect with or without fancy powers." You said with a bit of a skittish smile, shaking off the pang of dread that you felt as you nuzzled her head. "Just try to stay on the right path. (Name) will do whatever she can to keep Steven and Spinny safe."

Spinel just smiled with a nod, giggling as you pressed a kiss into her head.

"...Hey, (Name)?" Steven suddenly spoke up.

"Hm?"

"About... what you said when I was on the roof..." He hesitated. "You... didn't mean it, right? About... giving up your... Y-You wouldn't actually do that.. right?"

The words came out steady, despite the bitter taste it left in your mouth. You gave him the best reassuring smile you could muster, though it felt rather heavy on your face. "Just... promise (Name) to be more careful from now on in return. Okay?"

You leaned over and nuzzled Spinel's cheek, making her giggle. "Same for Spinny."

Steven perked up, and you could see the light return to his eyes. At once, he bounces out of his bed and throws himself into your chest. "Thank you, (Name)... I promise to be extra careful for you!"
