"Nuts..."
You heard Spinel mutter as you turned to see Pearl walking off the platform, looking around the area in disgust.
"Great. Here comes the fun police." Amethyst grumbles, coming out of her hole.
"Garnet said you'd be here, but I didn't want to believe it." Pearl explained with an angered note in her tone. "Amethyst, what were you thinking bringing Steven to a... Kindergarten!?"
"I don't know." She kicks a nearby pebble, trying to act nonchalant. "We were in the neighborhood."
"Pearl, settle down." You tried to sooth her. "No harm done."
"No (Name), it's much bigger than that!" She snapped briefly, before correcting herself. "It's... I don't know how much you know about this but-"
"Pearl?" Steven cuts her off. "Was Amethyst really made here?"
Pearl looked appaled at the question. "How much did you tell him?"
"What? You mean about the bad thing? How this bad place is where bad Gems came to grow more bad Gems?" Amethyst retorts with venom in her tone. "Is that what you're talking about?"
Your eyes widened slightly.
Place where gems grew...
"They grew other Gems here?!" Steven's voice jolted you our of your train of thought.
That's what it was. You thought. Kindergartens grew gems... how could you forget that? Has it really been that long?
"Amethyst! He's not ready!" Pearl snapped at her, sounding both angry and oddly panicked.
You lifted your head to peer at Pearl questionably. "Pearl wha-"
"Oh, but don't worry, Steven." Amethyst suddenly continues, wearing a smile that didn't match her grim tone. "Everything's just fine now-"
"Amethyst!" Pearl called to her, sounding more desperate now.
"It all worked out. We won!-"
"Amethyst." You tried to stop her now, your fur prickling at the tone in her voice, as well as how she kept stepping towards steven with that empty grin.
"And we shut this place down-"
"Stop!" Pearl exclaimed, her patience reaching its end.
"So the Earth would be safe from parasites like ME!"
"ENOUGH!!"
Your thrust your head towards her, making her jolt back. "Whatever this is, do NOT take it out on him!"
She glares at you with an especially scathing look, but backs off.
You huffed, dimly aware of feeling Pearl's hands fall on your back, presumably to sooth you.
"Pearl?" Steven's timid voice reached you both, as he stood by Spinel, who looked fearful of the situation. "What's goin' on here?"
"Steven, I'm sorry." She knelt down before him, setting her hands on his shoulders. "I never wanted you to see this horrible place. And Spinel, I didn't want you to see this either..."
You stood, incredulous while spinel looked both sad and confused. "Why not?"
She looked to you wearily.
"Then why don't you just... LEAVE!!!"
You turned towards Amethyst, just in time to see Amethyst summons her whip and wrap it around Pearl, using it to fling her into one of the Gem machines. "Admit it! I'm just an embarrassment to you!"
