Garnet's fusion is so important to the Homeworld. It was so important that that key moment happened, because it changed an impossibly large amount of plans, visions, and strategies.
Just because of one fusion. Do you know why?
It's because the social system that the Homeworld went by was very closely like the one in ancient India. One person cannot marry into a higher level. One person cannot move from level to level. They are born into a level, and are never allowed to move from one to another.
That's what Homeworld is. No one can move from one level to another, it's not allowed. You were made into a certain level and you stay in that one.
When Ruby and Sapphire fused, it broke the biggest rule they had. You are not allowed to fuse out of a gem outside of your social level, you are not allowed to move from level to level, you are not allowed to love anyone outside of your level.
And why was that so important?
Because they broke all three rules.
Not to save Homeworld, not to serve Homeworld, not to protect Homeworld.
They did it for love, no other reason.
That's all.
