I have the feeling that Pearl intentionally covers her ankles with every new form, because since she was made in a factory she has a serial number tattooed onto her ankle. She embarrassed, and ashamed that she's just a Pearl, and she feels like a disgrace to the Crystal Gems.
She tries so hard to be just as good as everyone else, to be as strong, as fast, as smart as everyone. But every once and a while she just breaks down and looks at the tattoo on her ankle.
