Chapter 8 - Painful Goodbye

The night was a sleepless, alcohol induced night, spent in my office - alone. The morning came too quickly, I go to Jace's room to find she's not there. I find her and Jace outside, "Cora can I talk to you?" I ask,
"she doesn't want to talk to you" Jace interrupts. I turn to him ready to strike, "I wasn't talking to you Beta" I shove him and he punches me in the side, I punch back harder under the jaw, he falls to the ground, I stalk towards him and pick him up by the collar of his shirt,
"Caleb don't you dare" Cora's voice rings. I look at her, my wolf fully in control he doesn't listen to our mate and punches Jace square in the nose, blood trickles down from his nostrils, I bring my fist back about to hit him again but Cora grabs it, I fling the arm she caught side ways, throwing her to the side like a rag doll, accidentally smacking her in the side of the face, reality hits me like a brick, I drop Jace and rush to her side,
"don't touch me" she says pushing me away,
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt you, my wolf was in control and I couldn't stop him" a red mark appears on her face from where I accidentally hit her, I cradle my head in my hands, I just hit my mate, oh. my god, I start freaking out. I walk her to the kitchen and grab out an icepack,
"thanks" she says snatching it from me. "Cora-" I begin,
"your wolf was in control I know and I understand it wasn't you who did this and even then your wolf didn't mean to hurt me" Aidan walks in,
"what happened?" He questions, "nothing I'm fine" Cora answers, Aidan's eyes wander to my split but healing knuckles,
"did you do this!" He asks,
"no, kind of-" I begin but Cora fixes the problem,
"he just threw me out of the way to protect me and in the process his wolf accidentally smacked the side of my face"
"Your wolf took control, oh no, who was it?" Aidan asks.
"Jace" I say carefully as I'm treading on egg shells.
"You beat up my Beta!" He yells, I cringe, just the reaction I was expecting,
"If she doesn't kill you first I'm going to do it" Aidan threatens.
"Sorry" I say disgraced at my actions, "yeah you better be. Is Jace alright?" I nod.
"Good, don't let it happen again.

I say goodbye to Aidan, Kelsey and the kids but I was missing one other special person - Cora. I rush outside to find her and Jace leaving, I call out to her, she glances at me momentarily but keeps going. I run to her, grabbing her wrist,
"please don't go" I beg,
"goodbye Caleb" she says, I pull her to me and kiss her,
"I just had to do that one last time" I say, she looks at me her eyes black meaning her wolf has taken over, her wolf wants to stay, her eyes fade back to their shining green,
"please" I beg one last time, she shakes her head, Jace steps in front of her,
"leave her" he says,
"you can't tell me what to do Beta"
"if you leave I'll come with you and I'll make my Beta Alpha and I'll make Aidan add me to his pack just so I can be with you, I would leave everything to be with you Cora, because I accept you Cordelia Lily Rivers as my mate and I should of told you that years ago" she looks touched, without another word Cora wraps her arms around my middle, I hug back.
"That's all I ever wanted" she whispers. I won my mate back.
"Does that mean your going to stay?" I ask, she nods - yes. She turns to Jace, "Jace I-" she begins but he cuts her off, "I understand he's your mate. Go get him tiger" he says hugging her, next she goes to Aidan,
"Aidan I'm going to miss you" she hugs him close to tears,
"but I'll visit all the time and if you ever need a babysitter, just ask, also I'm going to stay apart of your pack until I know I can trust Caleb"
"You can trust me" I say interlacing my fingers with hers.
"Caleb I don't trust you with my sister" Aidan says,
"I don't approve"
"No one asked for your approval" I retort,
"yeah well if you hurt my sister again I'll end you" he threatens,
"I won't I promise" I say seriously. Cora and I walk together back to the pack house, our hands brush and I almost reach out to grab her hand but decide otherwise. She stops walking out the front or her room,
"bye" she says in a timid voice,
"you're not sleeping in there by yourself" I say,
"I'm not 3 years old, and there's no way I'm sharing a room with you" she replies.
"Why not? We're mates"
"I just don't feel comfortable sharing a room with you. Yet" At least she didn't say never ever will she share a room with me, yet is progress.
"Okay, but I want you to a least be in the connected room to mine" I propose. "If it helps you sleep at night" she murmurs.
"It will actually" she rolls her eyes heavenwards at my literally, I show her to the conjoined room, her eyes widened in amazement,
"Alpha suit?" She questions,
"only the best for my mate" I smile and continue,
"the rooms are connected through here" I open the bathroom door, revealing my messy room.
"This room is amazing, thanks" she says sharing a small smile. I sit down next to her on the bed,
"do you know what would be even more amazing?" I rub my hand on her knee - gently,
"if you stayed in my room with me" she pushes my hand off her knee,
"is that some kind of shady pick up line you say and all the ladies come running?" She says, I sadly chuckle,
"is that all you see me as some shady player?" I ask slightly hurt,
"no, but I've heard some stories" she says slightly laughing.
"God damn Aidan, he wasn't much better himself. But I've changed now, now that I've got you" I turn her head towards me with my fingertips. I lean in slowly, she looks as if she is having an inner battle with her wolf. I press a small kiss to her lips and pull back, she looks as if she's made up her mind and she kisses me back softly, my wolf jumps with joy at being so close to our mate. She pulls away and stares at me blushing,
"good night Caleb" she says,
"sleep well beautiful" I say standing up and kiss her forehead.
