"Padfoot, don't..." I giggled and bit my lip. Sirius just shushed me and continued to levitate the large rock over the ice. Unsuspecting Peter continued to slide about on the new, snow covered, and thin ice on the surface of the Black Lake. Suddenly, Sirius flicked his wand and dropped the rock a few inches from Peter's feet. With a loud cracking sound and something that sounded like a girl screaming, the dark ice fell away and Peter was plunged into the freezing water. Remus and James burst into laughter as they watched the scene unfold from a bench.

"Happy birthday, beautiful." Sirius said after his fit of laughter and wrapped me in a hug. A smile broke out on my face as I buried my cold cheeks into his wool, scarlet scarf that smelled of him- like motorcycle exhaust and his sweet, tropical scented conditioner he loved so dearly.

"You remembered?" I asked happily and looked up at him.

"How could I forget my girlfriend's birthday? You've been talking about your meeting with Dumbledore for months." Sirius chuckled and kissed me on my nose, spreading warmth all the way down to my toes.

Peter, gasping for air and spitting up water, hauled his body onto the shore at my feet. His teeth could be heard clattering together, but still, we didn't do anything to help him, just laughed at his misfortune.

"So to the meeting then?" I whispered happily. I couldn't wait any longer to talk to Dumbledore.

Sirius rolled his eyes at my eagerness and grabbed my hand to help me trudge up through the snow. I nearly made Sirius run with me all the way up to Dumbledore's office and before I knew it, I was nervously standing before the headmaster, my foot tapping on the floor.

"Happy birthday, Lexi." Dumbledore began. "I would also like to officially welcome you as a full member of the Order of the Phoenix."

"Thank you, sir." I replied quickly. "So, can I start anything new for the Order soon? I would like to start as soon as possible!"

Dumbledore looked at me in amusement. Sirius actually averted his eyes from my questioning look.

"A new task? Lexi, I actually wanted you to keep an eye on Sterling, Severus, Donald, and Regulus as they visit the Ministry today." Dumbledore explained. The excited bubble in my chest deflated. My new job in the Order was literally the same thing.

"Why can't I do something new like Sirius?" I blurted with a whine. "At least let me help him!"

"Lexi, you will be helping him." Dumbledore assured.

"Yeah, that's what you always say." I grumbled and turned my cheek away from the headmaster. My heart was sinking by the second and I focused my eyes on Fawkes, Dumbledore's bright red phoenix and glared, as if the bird had something to do with my situation.

"Can I at least tell her what I'm doing?" Sirius coaxed and softly grabbed my hand. His fingers drew circles in my palm and I started to calm down, feeling a little hope from his words.

"I suppose." Dumbledore nodded. He laced his knobby fingers together on his desk and tilted his head forward as Sirius started to speak.

"Vixen, I've been working with Bellatrix Lestrange."

The temperature in the room seemed to drop a few degrees at the mention of the evil witch's name. Even Fawkes ruffled his feathers and let out a low, angry sounding caw.

"What?" I breathed and recalled the incident only months ago where Bellatrix nearly killed Sirius in Hogsmeade.

"I've been... Meeting with my cousin." Sirius' voice choked on the word. "And apologizing for our last meeting in Hogsmeade... And agreeing to... Become a Death Eater."
