It was the following day, rather early in the morning considering most of the time I'd wake up around noon. I sat in the living room on the floor with Arianna, Megan and Mckenzie were sitting on the couch. The boys were scattered all around the house, constantly on the move. Arianna and I were more focused on the new nail polish she had gotten rather than the movie that was playing on the large TV mounted on the wall.
Candice had left early this morning in an absolute frenzy to go fetch a kid named Andy from summer camp. She said she wasn't coming back and that it was an emergency. I think Andy was her nephew or something and he'd broken his arm but I wasn't sure because I wasn't exactly awake when she had whisper-yelled at me and Arianna around 5am before she'd bolted.
"So, you'll never guess who called me last night." Arianna started. She was inspecting the off-nude bottle of nail polish in her hand.
"Who?" I asked her.
"Damon." She replied. My head shot up with my eyes wide.
"Damon?" I questioned her. She nodded. My mouth formed a perfect 'o'.
Damon Stephano was Arianna's ex-boyfriend. They were together for about a year but didn't leave things on a good note. Damon and Arianna broke up because he had to move to Australia for work, he invited Arianna to go with him but she declined. He got super mad and the fight was intense, the breakup left Arianna in tears for a couple of days.
"What did he want?" I asked. She sighed heavily and looked up at me with her big brown eyes.
"...he said he got a job offer in New York and he took it...and he wanted to see me, to talk and just see what happens." Arianna was speaking very cautiously.
"Okay...so do you want to see him?" I started painting my thumb with a matte purple polish.
"I don't know." She ran her hand through her hair. "I mean...I don't know if I should."
"Clearly he wants to get back together with you but-"
"I'm with Ryan." She interrupted. I nodded. "Kylie, I have no idea what to do...I mean Damon and I have so much history and I really loved him but Ryan...Ryan is amazing and he's like a breath of fresh air you know, he's not like the guys we're used to. He's..." she paused for a while, "...he's not Damon." She finished.
"Children." Megan started, pausing the movie she was watching with Mckenzie.
"Oh please no." Mckenzie complained.
"Hush." Megan scolded. "Let Mama Megs speak." She added. Mckenzie rolled her eyes while Arianna and I chuckled. "So I think...here's what I think. I think dating an ex again is like trying to put poo back up your butt."
"Megan! That's disgusting." Mckenzie punched her arm. Megan shrugged as if she acknowledged that her analogy was super gross but she didn't care.
"It's the truth." She said.
"Thank you, Megan, for inserting yourself into our conversation." Arianna teased. Megan smiled brightly.
"It was my absolute pleasure." She replied.
Two loud voices laughing made us turn our attention to the two guys walking through the living room towards the door. Mason and Connor stopped behind the couch that Megan and Mckenzie were sitting.
"Hey guys." Connor said. I glanced at Mason who had a suitcase in his hand.
"Are you leaving now?" I asked him. He nodded. He looked really casual in his white t-shirt, dark jeans and sneakers.
"Say hi to your mom, Mason, I haven't seen her in forevs." Arianna chirped up.
"Yeah, I will." He chuckled.
