Chapter 45: Petunia- the Holiday Ruiner
-Bex p.o.v.-

"Ready?" I looked down at the three house elves.

"Ready." Pip pulled her bag closer to her. The bag was as big as her, forcing her to drag the luggage. But she wouldn't allow her master to take care of it.

"Grab my hand, master." Biddy held his small hand out.

I grabbed ahold of him. My hand being much larger than his, he held onto my pointer finger, like a small child would.

The sensation was not like apperating, it was like teleporting. House elves were able to flash from one place to another in a much more convenient way.

In seconds we were standing outside of the Evans household. Lily was sitting on the first step, waiting.

"Bex!" She exclaimed once we were in her sight and she hurried to stand. "You're here!"

"Course I am," I grinned. "I can't miss out on mums cookies, now can I?"

Lily giggled, "she has a batch in the oven. Just for you."

"How nice of her," I grinned, hugging Lily back as she wrapped herself around me.

"You're so warm, I was getting cold just sitting there." She said pulling away, staying close to my side.

"Let's get out of the weather then, shall we?" I allowed her to go first, entering the warm house. "Morning mum," I smiled at the woman who looked around the kitchen corner at the sound of the door opening.

"Bex, darling!" She exclaimed, throwing the hand towel over her shoulder she opened her arms for a hug. "How are you?"

"I'm good, how are you doing?" I smiled, enjoying the hug I was getting. Mrs. Evans always gave the best hugs. They were warm and full of love, they seemed to envelope the guest in her calm and caring aura.

"I'm doing wonderful, thank you for asking." She smiled brightly, pulling away to see my face. "My, how you've grown, you're so beautiful!"

I giggled, "it has been a few years," I looked at her face too, taking in the subtle changes. Her hair was getting lighter, the dark brown was becoming closer and closer to grey. She had also gained a few more wrinkles by her eyes and mouth, from all of the smiling she did.

"Come, I've got a batch of cookies in the oven, let's talk." She pulled me and Lily into the kitchen, pushing us into the stools at the bar.

So that's what we did, we talked.

"Mum!" The horrid screeching could be heard from down the street.

"I'm in the kitchen, dear." Mum called to the animal like sound.

Loud footsteps echoed through the quiet house and in trampled the beast itself. "Mum! I'm going out with Vernon later!"

"Alright Petunia, dear, say hello to our guest." Mum smiled at the thing.

A look of confusion crossed her face, making her look a little better than she normally did. When she spotted me a scowl stretched across her horse-like features. "Oh, it's you."

"Hello Petunia." I said the name as if it were poison.

"Dumbledore." She spat out, her lips puckered together, making it look like she had eaten something sour.

"The names bittersweet isn't it?" I smirked.

She frowned. The last time she mentioned the name was when she was begging my dad to be able to come to Hogwarts. Now she's calling Lily names because she's magical.

"Like I would want to be like you, you're a freak." She glared harshly.

"Petunia!" Mum exclaimed.

"It's alright mum, I can take care of myself." I reassured her. "For not wanting to be a freak you sure did beg my father a lot."

"At least I was accepted to the school my mum works at, your dad didn't even accept you in the school he owns." She smirked as if she had one upped me.

I gave her a wicked grin. "I was accepted to my fathers school, I was accepted to three different schools. I choose to go to a school in France."

She rolled her eyes, "whatever, I doubt you can even speak French."

She frowned, "what did you say?" Her voice became high and whiny.

"Wouldn't you like to know," I smirked.

"Alright, that's enough girls." Mrs. Evans said firmly, stopping the fight that was about to start.

"Fine." I pouted and backed off.

She made a strangling type of noise and left the kitchen, stomping up the stairs to her room.

I looked up from my mug of hot coco when I felt eyes on me. I met the identical eyes of Lily. "What?" I asked.

"You should really be much nicer to her." Lily frowned.

"She's the one that was calling me a freak. I was only defending myself with a few meaner words she couldn't understand. What's wrong with that?" I justified my actions.

Lily only rolled her eyes.

Two days had passed before I realised that I didn't have my favorite jacket, I had left it at James' house. I couldn't go shopping with Lily without my favorite jacket. So I did the only logical thing I could think of. Looking back on my decision, I can see that it probably wasn't the best idea to give James Lily's address.

When the bell rang I looked at Lily before taking off to the door. There was no way I would allow Lily to answer the door. Lily chased right after me, ready to tell James off and threaten him to never visit her house again.

While Lily and I were fighting over who would go through the entry of the loft first, someone else answered the door.

"Who are you?" A high pitched squeal sounded. Petunia tried her best at flirting.

My eyes widened and I shared a horrified look with Lily. "Oh merde," I cursed under my breath in French.

I let go of the door frame, making Lily fall. I stepped over Lily's fallen form and hurried to the front door.

"Hey boys," I smirked.

"You know this freak?" Petunia squawked in disgust.

"Petunia, they are freaks as well." I rolled my eyes, "what? Did you think that wizard boys had warts or something?"

"We don't all look like Snivellus," James let out a snort in disgust at the thought of being compared to Severus.

Sirius rolled his eyes, "yeah right, I'm more handsome than any muggle you know," he directed to Petunia.

Petunia gave a very unattractive snort and turned on her heal, her pointed nose high in the air, though it only met the boys' shoulders.

I rolled my eyes at her back, "don't mind her, she's normally that much of a prat."

Lily finally got up from her place on the floor and glared at the two boys. "Don't you dare, ever come to my house again, Potter. This is a one time thing."

"Sure Evans," James smirked.

"We're only here to drop off this jacket for Gorgeous, we don't spend our holiday stalking you, Evans." Sirius shook his head in horror.

"Whatever," Lily grumbled and continued to glare at them.

"Thanks boys," I smiled in gratitude and retrieving the jacket from Sirius' outstretched arm.

Our fingers brushed as I was pulling my arm away. Sirius grabbed my upper arm just before I was able to put my hand back at my side. I looked at him in confusion, "look in the pocket," he spoke softly so only I could hear. Though it didn't really matter because James and Lily were arguing.

I nodded, my eyes still looking at him questioningly, curiosity bubbling up in me. And just as softly as he spoke, his fingers trailed down my arm to my hand and to my fingertips, then he dropped my hand from his, allowing it to fall back to my side.

"Come on James, let's leave the girls to their shopping," Sirius gripped James' shoulder and pulled him back a little. He winked at me, his usual smirk located on his lips.

They turned away, walking down the driveway and to the sidewalk. James called over his shoulder, "later Evans," and you could just hear the smirk in his voice. The boys began to talk, James threw his head back to laugh at something Sirius said. And just before they passed the neighbors mailbox did Sirius look behind himself, our eyes connecting, he winked once more, gaining an eye roll from me.

I turned to Lily with a giggle, "shopping now?" I closed the door behind me as we went back inside to the warmth.

The rest of the day was spent at the mall in the center of London. We went from shop to shop, just looking around and buying interesting things.

At one point, Lily dragged me to a dress shop, informing me that we must get a dress for Slughorn's New Years Eve party once we got back to school.

I was basically forced into a bright pink, poofy dress that came to mid-thigh. "I look horrid Lily!"

"You look pretty!" She argued.

"No!" I laughed aloud, looking at myself in the full length mirror. "I look like one of Sirius' fangirls!"

Lily smirked, "you should get it!" She squealed, "he won't be able to keep his eyes off of you! He'll be so shocked! You look nothing like you normally do!"

"Are you trying to set me up with Sirius?" I asked with an amused smirk.

She shrugged, "you guys would be a cute couple."

I rolled my eyes, "I'll get it," she interrupted me with a hug. "If, you give Potter a chance."

She glared, "no way."

"Then I guess I won't be getting this dress," I mused.

"I've already agreed to go with Amos Diggory." Lily informed me.

"What?" I asked wide eyed, "since when?"

Lily blushed, "since he asked me on the last day of semester."

"Why wasn't I told?" I questioned from inside the changing room, getting back into my jeans and tee shirt.

"I never really got around to it," she mumbled.

I raised an eyebrow, popping my head out of the changing room while still pulling up my pants. "What a great friend," I joked.

She giggled, rolling her eyes at me, "so will you get it?"

I rolled my eyes back, "yeah, I'll get it."

"Yay!" She jumped up in excitement.

When we were leaving Lily giggled, "that guy over by the fountain is staring at you."

"What guy?" I asked amused.

Lily glanced back over my shoulder, "dark hair and eyes, blue sweatshirt." She grinned, "should we stop for a coffee?"

I rolled my eyes, "alright Cupid, let's get a coffee."

I turned and together we went towards where the boy she described was standing. As she said, a boy with dark hair and eyes was staring at me, he wore a blue sweatshirt and dark jeans. He was very handsome.

"What kind do you want?" Lily asked.

"A Carmel frappe." My eyes lite up at the thought of the delicious drink. As we passed by the boy, our eyes connected. I smiled at him, gaining a breath taking smile from him.

"A cold drink?" Lily looked at me questioningly.

I rolled my eyes, "it won't really be that cold."

Lily's eyes widened in recognition. She nodded and went to the counter to get our drinks while I waited by a table.

"Hi," someone spoke from behind me.

I turned, seeing the boy. "Oh, hey," I smiled warmly at him.

"I'm Sam," he gave a sweet smile.

"My names Bex," I introduced.

He ran a hand through his dark hair that was styled up in the front and lay flat in the back. "I saw you earlier, and couldn't help but notice how beautiful you were."

I looked at him in shock, "really?"

"Yes," he nodded, looking down into my eyes. "I think you might be the most beautiful girl I have ever seen."

I looked down at the floor; in a way I was overwhelmed by his sudden complements. "Thank you." I looked back up into his dark eyes, smiling.

His eyes brightened and his smile widened, showing off a dimple on his right cheek. "So umm, I was wondering if you might want to go out sometime?"

I frowned, "I'm sorry, I'm only visiting London today, I'm on holiday. I go to school in Scotland."

He frowned, his dimple disappearing. "Oh, uh, yeah. That's fine. But just so you know, you look very beautiful today." He smiled and turned, walking away.

"What happened?" Lily asked returning to my side as I watched him walk away.

"He asked me out." I said with a shrug.

"Really? What did you say?" Lily asked excitedly.

"I told him I was on holiday here, and I go to school in Scotland." I frowned, "his name is Sam."

"Sam, that's cute." Lily smiled sadly, "too bad you couldn't go on a date with him. He was good looking."

"Yeah, he was." I agreed as we started for the mall exit.

Mr. Evans looked up as we entered the house, "how was the mall, girls?"

"Great!" Lily giggled, tossing her bags onto the floor and falling back into the couch. "I'm so tired!"

"I agree!" I laid down on the spot next to her.

Mr. Evans just chuckled and flipped the page in his newspaper.

The rest of the week was uneventful for the most part. Lily wouldn't allow me prank Petunia, claiming it to not be mature. But who said I was mature?

Mrs. Evans made plenty of her wonderful chocolate chip cookies, platters and platters full. The house elves were happy to help her out, they always were. They absolutely loved Mrs. Evans and loved to do anything she asked.

Lily and I sat by the fire place and watched many movies, never once did we feel the need to get up from the warmth and go out into the cold, snowy weather.

Only on Christmas Eve did things get interesting. "Girls!"

"Yeah mum?" Lily asked, her eyes still glued to the screen as the blonde girl started towards the door.

"Don't open the door!" I yelled, shaking my head in disappointment. "You never open the door in the middle of the night after the power has gone out!"

"Girls!" Mrs. Evans stood in front of the television. "Get dressed, I've signed us up to go Christmas carolling!"

I looked at her with a frown, "Christmas carolling?"

"Yes, now get dressed. We leave at five." She said firmly, leaving no room for arguing.

I stood and made my way up to Lily's room, passing by Petunia's room, where she and her mum were arguing about it. Petunia, it seems, had a date set up with her whale of a boyfriend.

"This is stupid," I grumbled to Lily.

"It can't be that bad," she shrugged, pulling on a new sweater.

I scoffed, "of course it will be. We'll have to listen to Petunia try to sing!"

Lily giggled, wrapping her Gryffindor scarf around her neck.

When we went back down to the kitchen, all ready, Mrs. Evans was packing my cookies into a tin tub. "What are you doing that for?"

"It's for the other carollers." She replied.

"But those are my cookies!" I pouted, "this is so unfair."

She rolled her eyes at me, giving a giggled. "I'll make you more tonight."

We walked out of the house, all of us bundled up, with me being the exception. I only wore a regular old sweatshirt and boots, my scarf hanging over my shoulders and my mittens covering my fingers. That was all I needed.

"Why are we doing this again?" I asked with a bored expression, following as we blended in with a group of other carollers.

"It's the season of giving, we should be happy and jolly and giving back to people." Mr. Evans chuckled.

"But I thought that was why the Americans created Thanksgiving. So they didn't have to give on Christmas. So shouldn't we just go home and eat the cookies?" I raise an eyebrow.

"No, even if the Americans create a new holiday does not mean that we aren't going to go do things as a family." Mrs. Evans rolled her eyes at me.

I pouted, "I tried." Lily giggled and shook her head at me. "Wait! He's not a part of this family!" I pointed to the walrus dressed as a man.

Petunia scowled at me, "he's my boyfriend, he can join us if he wants. Beside we were suppose to go on a date tonight but we have to come to this stupid carolling thing." Petunia glared, "and you aren't in this family either!"

"Shes a better sister than you are!" Lily defended me. I smiled at her, happy with her sticking up for herself and defending me against her horrid sister.

I rolled my eyes, "I'm actually wanted in this family. Walrus boy over there isn't."

"My names Vernon." He glared.

"Not like I care, walrus boy." I shrugged, turning away from him.

I trudged behind Mr. and Mrs. Evans as they lead us to yet another house. The doorbell was rung and everyone started singing. Petunia belted the words of the song in her high pitched voice, ruining the entire thing. Yet again.

I rolled my eyes at how horrible it sounded and rested against the fence, just waiting for it to be over. I wasn't being a part of this horrible thing. No, I was plenty happy just following them as they walked down neighbourhoods, singing. Not like I needed to join in or anything. I'll leave the singing to them.

Everyone stopped singing as the song came to an end but Petunia took it upon herself to do a solo.

"Petunia! Will you shut up?! No one wants to hear you butcher a classic Christmas song!" I yelled from my position.

Petunia immediately stopped, glaring at me. "You little-" she started before she was cut off by Mrs. Evans' harsh glare.

The rest of the night was spent listening to Petunia murder song after song. She seemed to be doing it on purpose, just to get on my nerves.

When we got back to the house I decided to get back at her. Lily never said I couldn't lock her out while she was kissing her boyfriend on the porch steps and use wandless magic to silence every entrance of the house to make sure that she couldn't ring any doorbells or knock on any windows.

That night I slept the most peaceful sleep I've had since being at the Evans household. No Petunia to ruin my sleeping with her loud snoring.
