Enid's POV

I woke up to the sun streaming through the windows and onto the bed.

Rubbing my eyes, I yawned and pushed myself into a sitting position.

I looked to my right to see that Carl wasn't there. He must've woken up before me.

I got out of bed and went over to the closet, getting out the clothes I was going to wear (a sweatshirt that was huge on me and a pair of jeans).

As I pulled my shirt over my head, I glanced over at the clock. 7:00 a.m. I had gate watch at 8:30 so I needed to hurry up.

I walked into the connecting bathroom and brushed my teeth before carelessly sweeping my hair into a messy ponytail and heading downstairs.

I looked on the kitchen to see if there was anything quick to have for breakfast.

Seeing nothing, I simply grabbed an apple and headed out the door.

As I walked down the street, I saw Rick and headed over to him.

He turned to me and smiled.

"Hey, Enid," he greeted. "How are you?"

"Fine," I answered. "Have you seen Carl?"

He shook his head. "I thought he was still asleep."

I shook my head back at him. "He was gone when I woke up."

Rick frowned. "Huh," he said. "I don't know. He's always wandering off. I'm sure he's around here somewhere."

"What about JC?" I asked. "Where is she?"

Rick hesitated before leaning forward. "She went on a walk outside the walls. She came to me around an hour ago and asked me to watch this place. Said she wouldn't be long."

I thought for a second before coming to a realization. "What if Carl followed JC?" I asked worriedly.

Rick chuckled at the idea. "Come on, Enid," he said. "Carl's not that stupid."

I breathed out a laugh. "Yeah," I said, trying to convince myself. "Maybe."

"He's around here somewhere," he assured me. "You can go look for him if you want."

"I will later," I told him. "I have gate watch until 10."

Rick nodded. "Alright, good luck," he said.

He walked past me, putting his hand on my arm briefly as he did.

I sighed and walked to the gate, climbing the guard post.

As I grabbed the rifle and sat down on the lawn chair they kept up there, I tried put Carl completely out of my mind and focus on the oncoming walkers.

And though I pretty much succeeded, he still entered my thoughts every now and then and made me lose focus.

I just hoped he was okay.
