Wham!"Ugh!"
Wham!
"Stop!"
Wham!
"Damn it Siya it's Sunday!" He groaned trying to sit up on his bed, grabbing the pillow before it could hit him in the face again.
"Watch whom you call Siya!"
He squinted through the darkness and then broke into a big grin before screaming, "Divy!", and hugging her tightly.
He looked over at his childhood bestfriend Divya Vaidya. Her long hair dyed light brown with deep auburn streaks which he noted suited her, reflected her spunky persona quite well. He was proud of his little friend, who was now a world famous designer. He'd seen her struggle for years in the crazy industry and was happy she emerged victorious.
He, Siya and Divya were inseparable as kids and as they grew up, their bonds only strengthened. Not that he would admit to either of them, but seeing Divya after so long made his chest explode with happiness. He could only imagine Siya's face when she saw Divya. Siya's beautiful dazzling smile that lit her eyes, her tinkling laughter as her tiny frame shook with unrestrained mirth...
His chain of thoughts was broken by a snap of fingers. He grinned down at his newly arrived bestfriend and admonished his wayward thoughts.
"I wasn't expecting you!" He said, as she wasn't supposed to be here until the next month.
"So should I head back to Paris?" She challenged, both hands on her hips.
"Shut up missy!" He said, playfully slinging his arm over her shoulders and mock choking her.
"You come here after months and talk about heading back! Do you want your best friend to hunt me down and kill me?" He asked, looking down at her.
"If you mean Siya, I think she has done that long back." She said, giving him her trademark knowing smirk that both annoyed and confused the hell out of him.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Just saying! C'mon dude, let's get her outta her bed..." She said, shaking her head at him.
He never got what she meant when she said stuff like that about him and Siya. And the worst part was, she never explained. All she said was – 'Somethings you need to figure out yourself'. So he simply shrugged and joined her to walk to Siya's room.
"Don't you think we should let her get some more sleep, about three hours or so? I mean it's three in the morning and she's had a long day." Judging by how little he had slept after all that happened last night, Siya surely must have gotten an early night's sleep as well.
"Back up man! Overprotective of your girl as always, aren't you?" Divya said in an animated manner, shoving him a little. She continued without waiting for an answer.
"She is a grown woman now, and fortunately you are not her husband to boss me around my BFF! I have the birthright to wake her up at midnight if I want to!"
If only she knew how close to the truth she was. Was he supposed to tell her about him and Siya now. Siya, his wife. His and only his.
"Are you blushing?" Divya asked, looking surprised as she took in his suddenly heated face. Even his ears had gone red.
"So how was the fashion week?" He asked her, changing the subject.
"Oh brilliant! You know the Spring collection by...." He zoned out as she kept going on and on about dresses and materials and ramp walks. He opened Siya's door and they walked to her bed.
He let out a breath as he took in her sleeping form. Suddenly, as if in slow motion, he saw a pillow coming out of nowhere.
"Stop it! I will not allow you to chuck that pillow at her."
"Oh man! We always do pillow fights, and you know that."
"But she's sleeping! No Divya, I won't allow it! Now step aside and let me wake her"
He sat down on the bed and looked at Siya's sleeping figure by his side. She looked beautiful even in her sleep. By the awkward position of her arms and her tangled hair he could make out that she must have tossed in her bed quite a lot. There was a crease on her brow which showed she must've had a tough time trying to fall asleep. He smiled at that. Good to know he wasn't the only one thinking about the change in their relationship.
He sat against her bedframe and leaned forward, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear he whispered to her, "Siya."
She stirred slightly but returned to her silent slumber. He heard Divya give a slight snort.
"Siya", he repeated, stroking her cheek gently. She turned to his side burying her face in his lap and draping her arm around his torso.
"Siya"
"Hmm?"
"Wake up"
"Sunday?"
"Siya come on..."
"Abhi please"
"Siya sweetheart come on", Divya mimicked Abhi's tone. At the sound of her voice, Siya shot up straight, now sitting next to Abhi with eyes wider than two big saucers.
"Divya?"
"Siya?"
"Oh my god!!!"
Both of them hugged each other, jumping up and down for long before they let go.
"I missed you!"
"I missed you too!"
"I missed you too much!"
"I miss you three much!" Abhi added in a mock girly voice. All three of them burst out laughing.
"How come you won't get up when I ask you too? But the moment you hear Divya's voice you are like shoot right out of the bed?"
"Oh I thought I was dreaming until I heard Divya's voice. Plus I was shocked to hear it after such a long—."
"Wait a sec! Did you just say you were dreaming of Abhi?" Divya's tone dripped of suspicion.
"Well yeah! We were sleeping..."
"Together?" Divya's eyebrows were raised, not even pretending to be casual anymore.
Abhi knew now was the time to escape. He didn't know how Divya would take the news and he wasn't sure how Siya was processing it as well. After all they hadn't spoken about this, and for god's sake it was barely a few hours ago when they'd decided this.
"I really gotta go back to sleep girls so would just excuse me..."
"Abhimanyu Acharya! Don't you dare move! Be quiet and sit!" Divya ordered assertively. There was no arguing with these girls once they used his full name.
Divya turned to Siya with her hands on her hips.
"Now, what am I missing here?"
