"I...I'm fine."
I mumble as I quickly make my way over to James.
"Are you okay?"
I ask as I hug him tightly in my arms while kneeling on the hard cement of the sidewalk.
"Are you hurt?"
I ask as lean back as I begin to check him for any signs of injury.
"I'm okay."
James nods and I smile in relief.
Good...
"Avery, are you okay sweetie?"
Jaecee asks and I glance over to see Jaecee looking down at her little sister in concern.
"Yeah, I'm okay."
Avery nods before shifting her attention to James.
"Thank you."
Avery murmurs wrapping her arms around James in a sweet hug.
Awe...how cute...
I smile pleased that everyone is safe.
I stand up causing a burning pain to spread from my wound causing me to stubble into Justin.
"Ouch!"
I wince in pain causing Justin to place a hand on my arm as if in an effort to steady me.
"Raya? What happened."
Justin asks looking down at me with his dark eyes.
"Just dealing with some idiots after money."
I lie as I place a hand against my wound before backing away.
"Oh my gosh! Raya, you're bleeding!"
Jo exclaims with a small gasp of surprise.
"I'm fine..."
I mumble just as I'm picked up off of my feet by Justin.
What...?
"Put me down!"
I yell in annoyance as I begin to struggle to get free. However, I stop when my side begins to hurt worse.
"Call an ambulance!"
Justin yells as he looks down at me in concern.
"No, I don't need an ambulance."
I state causing his eyes to narrow.
"Like hell you don't!"
"It's just a skin wound...and besides, I don't like hospitals."
I state causing Tyson to step forward.
"Well, if you don't want an ambulance, then you could come to my house. My mom is a doctor so she could check on your wound."
Tyson states, but I shake my head.
"I'll be fin-"
"Yes!"
Justin agrees having interrupted my sentence.
"What we need to do is call the police and have them take these guys to jail."
I remark looking down at the four men in anger.
Idiots...
"Already done, they're on their way."
Jaecee states and I glance over to see her flourish her phone.
Good...
"Okay, let's get you to Tyson's house so that Mrs. Lake can check your injury."
Nathan states causing Jo to step forward.
"Someone should wait here for when the police arrive."
"What?"
Nathan asks glancing over in concern.
"Well, we can't just leave the scene of a crime! Raya I can understand along with Tyson since it's his mom that's going to tend to Raya's injury. However, I'm not hurt and I'm also not watching kids so I'll stay here until the police arrive and then I'll head that way."
Jo explains causing Nathan to step back.
"I'll stay here too then."
Nathan states and I frown.
I can't leave them with these guys...
"I don't think that-"
"Okay, we'll meet you there."
Justin states already making his way towards a dark blue Dodge truck.
"Guys, really, I'm fine."
I state as they all cling into the truck.
When I open my mouth to protest once again, Jaecee is quick to interrupt.
"Just hush and let us take care of you."
She states causing me to frown.
"Were you hurt?"
I ask in concern, but she shakes her head.
"No, seems like you were the only one hurt."
Jaecee states and I shrug.
I was the one they were after...
I just don't understand how the could have already found me...
"You and Jo did pretty well on handling your own."
I state causing her to smile.
"Are you crazy?! What if they had a gun?!"
Tyson demands from the front seat.
"Well, then I guess I'd have a bullet in me right now."
I answer with a small shrug.
Good thing they didn't have a gun...
"Really? That's your response?"
Justin demands glaring down at me and I frown.
There wasn't enough room to have our own seats so we are all kind of squished together.
I'm currently sitting in Justin's lap with my back leaned against the door.
"Yep."
I mutter feeling a bit uncomfortable.
"Would you stop moving! You're going to hurt yourself."
Justin states as he unconsciously pulls me closer.
Is he seriously lecturing me right now?
I frown glaring up at him in annoyance just as a small 'click' fills my ears.
I glance over to see Jaecee looking down at her phone.
What is she doing?
The truck suddenly jerks as it hits a bump causing me to wince in pain.
Ouch!
I glance down to see that I'm still wearing Justin's hoody which has a bloody stain on the side.
Damn it!
I lean my head back against the door as I try to take a few deep breaths.
"Sorry."
I mumble causing him to look down at me in confusion.
"What?"
"How much was your hoody?"
I ask closing my eyes as exhaustion begins to sweep over me.
"Why would you ask that?"
Justin questions and I hold up two fingers.
"Two reasons. One, I want one for myself and two, you need a new one."
I mutter gesturing to the stain and his eyes narrow when he notices the blood.
Suddenly, my ribs are cold and I glance down to see him examining the cut in my side.
"What are you-"
"Tyson, drive faster! She's losing a lot of blood."
Justin demands and I quickly slap his hand away in anger.
"I'm fine, I've had worse-"
"What do you mean?"
Justin interrupts leaning forward until he is less then an inch away.
I'm way to tired to deal with this right now...
"I got my secrets and you've got yours."
I mumble before finally giving up and leaning against him as my eyes drift close as I fall asleep.
I got my secrets and you've got yours...

...

I open my eyes when the feeling of being shifted wakes me from my sleep.
What's going on?
I glance around to see that I am still in Justin's arms as he carries me towards a large brick house.
Where am I?
My gaze shifts to Jaecee, Tyson, Avery and James as they rush out of the car and towards the house.
Why are they in such a rush?
"Hmm? Mmwhere are we?"
I ask sleepily as I look around in confusion.
I don't recognize this place...
"We're at my house."
Tyson answers as he opens the door for Justin to walk in since he is still carrying me in his arms.
I squint my eyes as the bright lights of a chandelier glint and sparkle.
How annoying...
I close my eyes in annoyance as I bury my face into the soft fabric of Justin's t shirt.
"Turn off the lights!"
I growl causing Justin to chuckle having heard my complaint.
"Mom!"
Tyson shouts causing my head to pound.
Ugh...
"Mom, are you here?!"
I flinch as Justin begins climbing up the stairs after Tyson with me still in his arms.
Why does my side still hurt so bad?
Tyson leads Justin into what looks to be a large library and I lift my gaze to meet a pair of familiar dark eyes.
That's the man I saw in the elementary office when James got into trouble at school.
This is Jake and Tyson's dad, Mr. Lake.
My gaze then shifts over to a tall, young woman who looks to be in her mid thirties with a slender figure, golden blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes. She wears jeans, a white blouse and a pair of colorful socks.
"Mom? Can you please help her?"
Tyson asks the second we walk in.
"What happened?!"
Mrs. Lake demands as she springs to her feet before gesturing for Justin to set me down on the couch.
"She was stabbed in the side with a knife, Mrs. Lake. I think she's lost quite a lot of blood."
Jaecee explains as Mrs. Lake rushes over.
"Hon, would you please take the others into the kitchen while I tend to her injuries?"
Mrs. Lake asks glancing at Mr. Lake who nods as he leads the others out of the room.
She was trying to get the kids out of here to where they didn't have to see this...
"I'm not leaving."
Justin states as his eyes narrow in determination.
Mrs. Lake seems to see that he's not going to back down, so she moves on.
"Fine, the rest of you out! Justin? Will you grab that first aid kit on the counter?"
Mrs. Lake asks as she pulls up my shirt to reveal the bloody stab wound in my side.
"Why didn't you call an ambulance?"
Mrs. Lake demands as Justin rushes back over with the first aid kit.
"No, ambulance."
I state squeezing my eyes shut to block out the pain as she begins to clean off the dried blood from around the wound.
"Who stabbed you?"
Mrs. Lake asks looking down at me with her light brown eyes.
"Just some idiot."
I lie as my gaze shifts down to watch her.
What is she doing?
"This is probably going to sting just a bit."
Mrs. Lake states as she pours some rubbing alcohol onto a clean rag.
Oh, crap!
I let out a small groan of annoyance just before she places the rag against my wound. The alchole burns as it kills the bacteria causing a gasp of pain to leave my lips.
"Shh, it's okay."
Mrs. Lake states as she adds a bit more, but it's not as bad as before.
Jeez...are we done yet?
"Justin, I need you to apply pressure here."
Mrs. Lake instructs as she places a rag firmly against my side in an effort to stop the bleeding. Justin quickly steps forward and takes her place by holding the rag firmly against my skin.
What are they doing?
I glance down just as Mrs. Lake grabs a needle and some thread from the first aid.
Oh, no....
"I'd prefer it if you didn't use a needle."
I state feeling very uncomfortable as I watch her sterilize the needle in the alcohol.
"You've lost a lot of blood, sweetheart. We can't risk you losing any more."
She states causing me to frown.
Great.....
"Okay, Justin? I'm going to need you to hold her still as I stitch up the wound."
Mrs. Lake explains and Justin switches places with Mrs. Lake so that she is now pressing the rag against my side.
"I think I'll be fine."
I state as I try and sit up, but Justin quickly pushes me back down into the couch.
"It'll be okay, sweetie."
Mrs. Lake reassures and I cast my gaze down in an effort to see what she's doing. However, Justin purposefully moves in front of me to block my view.
"Don't look."
He warns causing my eyes to narrow in annoyance.
"You just love to annoy me don't you?"
I ask taking note of that arrogant smirk on his lips.
"Only you."
Only me...
