Roman Holiday by Halsey

Sam:

do you remember the taste of my lips that night I stole a bit of my mother's perfume?

It was doomed from the start. Even Sam knew that.

cause I remember when my father put his fist through through the wall that separated the dining room

His father hadn't approved of you then, and if he were still around you doubted he'd change his mind.

and I remember the fear in your eyes the very first time we snuck into the city pool

You used to sneak around, and it worked for a while. But then Christmas came.

late December with my heart in my chest and the clouds of my breath
Didn't know know where we were running to but don't look back

He had to leave.
You told him not to look back.
You told yourself not to either.

we'll be looking for sunlight or the headlights till our wide eyes burn blind

You watched him pull away, leaving you in your empty house full of memories.

we'll be lacing the same shoes that we've worn through to the bottom of the line

You ran your fingers over old pictures, bent and folded on the edges. A tear slipped down your face and smeared on the picture.

and we know that we're headstrong and our hearts gone

You had smiled back then with him. You'd been happy back then. But his heart was gone, on the road, along with the love he felt for you.

"And the timing's never right." You whispered to yourself.

but for now let's get away on a Roman Holiday.

Dean:

could you imagine the taste of your lips if we never tried to kiss on the drive to Queens

The first time Dean kissed you, you'd been on a road trip.

cause I imagine the weight of your ribs if you lied between my hips in the backseat

You'd spent that night in the back of the impala, his chest moving against yours.

I imagine the tears in your eyes the very first night I'll sleep without you

The next night he had to leave you behind and he cried, knowing you were falling asleep without him

and when it happens I'll be miles away and a few months late

You ran, around the house and the neighborhood. Anything to keep you from running away.

didn't know where I was running to but I won't look back

It only worked for a while. Eventually you left, determined to find him

feet first, don't fall

You'd fallen too hard for him

we'll be running again

You'd run anywhere with him

keep close, stand tall

You'd stand by his side as long as you lived.
