Chapter 25

Maya POV

After Kinleigh woke up from her nap I put her in her high chair so that I could get dinner around for when Lucas got here. He had his last day of classes today and would be home soon. I settled on making spaghetti with salads and garlic bread. I was in the middle of stirring the sauce and noodles when Lucas came in the door.  He walked over to Kinleigh who was as usual happy to see him and took her out of the high chair.

"How was your day?" he said as he walked over to me and stood against the counter. 

"It was good! We did our usual routine. How was your last day of school?" I asked as I dished out the food onto the plates. 

"It was good. So I want to talk to you about something." he said and I was curious as to what he wanted. 

"About?" I said as I looked up at him. 

"Lets do something tomorrow just the two of us, you know kind of like a date night." he said to me and immediately anxiety washed over me. 

"I'm not ready to leave her yet." I said and when I looked at Lucas he looked disappointed. 

"Maya you have to do it sometime. She'll be fine. I know that your mom is going to be going out of town with Shawn this weekend, and since my mom works I talked to Topanga. She said that she and Mr. Matthews would love to keep her for us." he replied. 

I looked up from what I was doing as annoyance washed over me "What? You talked to Topanga?" 

"Yes, I did because I knew you'd do this." he replied. 

"You can talk to her again and tell her she's not needed." I said as I grabbed our plates off the counter and placed them off the table. 

"Come on Maya this is ridiculous. " he answered. 

"No, what's ridiculous is that you went behind my back and asked Topanga to babysit without talking to me." I all but snapped at him. 

Lucas looked at me with annoyance on his face "Well excuse me for wanting to have a date night with you. I knew you would be like this so I just went ahead and asked her to babysit." he snapped causing Kinleigh to start fussing. 

I walked over and took Kinleigh from him and looked at him "Now look what you did." I said as I took her out of his arms. Lucas looked a bit defeated as a I walked away. 

I took Kinleigh and walked back to our bedroom and laid her on the bed. I got in beside her and pulled my boob out. She latched on right away and I watched her feed off me. A few seconds later Lucas had entered the room. 

"Is she okay?" he said as he came over and sat on the bed beside me.  

"Yes, she was just hungry." I answered. 

"I'm sorry I snapped." he replied. "I didn't mean to make her cry." 

I looked up at him and sighed "It wasn't just you. I'm the one who snapped first and I don't think she cried because of that. I think she was just hungry." 

"I'm glad that she's okay. I'm sorry for snapping at you as well. I'll text Topanga and tell her we don't need her." he replied. 

"No, Lucas don't. I'll go with you tomorrow." I answered and he got the biggest grin on his face. 

"Are you sure?" he said to me. 

"Yes. It will be hard but you are right when you say I need to do just do it." 

 "Good. The baby will be fine. We haven't done anything together in so long. It will be nice to do something just the two of us. She'll be in good hands with Topanga." he said as he leaned in and kissed me softly. 

"I know. It's just the anxiety of it all gets to me." I replied and I started tearing up. "What if she cries the whole time or she needs me?" 

"Don't cry." he said as he wiped a tear away. "If she cries the whole time we'll come back and get her. And you know you can check in with Topanga the whole time. I'm sure she will send you pictures if you ask." 

"That's true." I sniffled. 

I pulled Kinleigh off my boob and she lay there looking at Lucas and I with a grin on her face. Lucas picked her up and began to burp her which only took a few seconds. I smiled as I watched him interact with her. It really did melt my heart. 

"Lets go eat before our food gets cold." he said with a smile as he got up off the bed. 

"Yeah we probably should." I chuckled. 

I got up off the bed and followed Lucas out to kitchen. He placed Kinleigh in her high chair then sat down at the table and I sat down beside him. After we ate I started to clean up the kitchen and put the left overs away. I finished rinsing off the dishes and turned around to get Kinleigh but Lucas had pinned me between himself and the counter. I looked up at him and smiled. He picked me up and placed me on the counter. I wrapped my arms around his neck and smiled at him. 

"What are you doing, Huckleberry?" I said with a grin. 

"This." he said and then he pulled my face to his and kissed me softly. 

I eased into that kiss, nibbling on his bottom lip to let him know I wanted more. He opened his mouth deepening the kiss and I felt my tongue brush along his.  He really was an amazing kiss her. He pulled away and looked up at me. 

"I love you, and I love our baby girl so much. Tomorrow is going to be so much fun just the two of us." he said to me. 

"We love you too and I know it will. I'm looking forward to it." I said and then I leaned into kiss him once more that was until Kinleigh made out a squeel noise and I pulled away to look at her. She was in her high chair looking at me and Lucas. 

"I think someone wants our attention." Lucas said and I chuckled. 

"Yeah I think so too." I giggled. 

Lucas picked me up off the counter and sat me down on the floor. He walked over and took Kinleigh out of her high chair. She was all smiles as he was walking towards her. Once I was finished in the kitchen. Lucas and I spent the rest of the just playing with Kinleigh until it was her bed time. I really was looking forward to our date night tomorrow.
