Chapter 47

Charlie's POV

Harry seemed very distant ever since the conversation with his dad. I'm sure he was stressed out so I didn't want to make it worse by talking about the trial. He always appeared to be in deep thought. Whenever I asked what was wrong he would brush me off saying he just had a lot on his mind. I felt like my worse fear was coming true. He was getting tired of me.

"I made pasta for dinner.."

"Cool I ate before I got home but I'll get some later maybe" he sat on the couch playing with his phone.

"Oh ok" I nodded walking back to the kitchen. Washing the dishes was somewhat of a distraction. I could pretend that everything was fine. Once I was done and the food had been put away I went straight to the bedroom. Harry didn't come to the room until almost midnight. I pretended to be asleep to avoid any awkward conversation. He still wrapped his arm around me when he slipped into bed, but that seemed to be the only affection I was going to receive.

"Distant?"

We walked along the snow covered side walk. I had 20 minutes until my next class and was in desperate need of relationship advice.

"Yea he doesn't say much. All of our conversations are short. He hasn't eaten any meals I've made in almost 2 weeks." I shrugged.

"Well have you asked him about it?"

"Yea but he says everything is fine. I don't know maybe I'm being paranoid. Classes did start again this week and the trial is a week from today so maybe he's just stressed"

"Niall mentioned his dad was being a dick again"

"They did have an argument the day we got back. That could be what's still bothering him"

"Ask him. He may not want to worry you. So just let him know that you're here if he wants to talk" Lo was being very supportive of everything. It was times like this that made me really appreciate my best friend.

"Yea. I'll try again tonight and see if I can get anything out of him"

"Let me know if you need anything" she smiled.

"Will do. Thanks Lo" she hugged me before heading to her next class. I pulled out my phone sending a quick text to Harry.

Charlie:
Hey babe. I'm cooking dinner tonight so please don't eat before you get home :)

Harry:
K

K? That's it? I was starting to get frustrated.

Charlie:
I love you.

Harry:
Yea you too

I stared at his message. It wasn't like him to not say it back. Im sure he didn't mean anything by it but I couldn't help letting my mind wonder during my last two classes. Why was his text so cryptic? Was he second guessing how he felt?

When I was free from my last class I rushed home. Harry loved tacos and maybe he would open up a bit over his favorite meal. 7 o'clock rolled around and he still wasn't home.

8 o'clock

9 o'clock

9:30

Finally around 9:45 I heard his keys in the door. I sat in the living room. Livid that he was home so late after I told him I was cooking.

"Hey" he huffed dropping his backpack to the floor.

"Hey? That's all you have to say after I told you I was making dinner and you stroll in at almost 10 o'clock?"

"Char please not right now. I'm sorry I should of called ok? I get it" he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Not right now? You act like I've been hounding you or something!" I stood up crossing my arms.

"That's not what I meant-" he sighed.

"What did you mean Harry?"

"Just that I've had a long day and I don't want to fight with you" he sat in the recliner pulling out his phone.

"Are you being serious right now? I've made dinner. You come home late. You act like I'm bothering you. And in the middle of our conversation you pull out your phone?"

"Please-"

"What is your problem? Have I done something to upset you?"

"No just stop overthinking everything" he huffed.

"Overthinking? How am I overthinking anything? You don't talk to me. I ask you to come home for dinner. You blow me off. The only emotion I've seen from you in the last two weeks is when you whisper I love you when you think I'm sleeping!"

"Shouldn't that be enough? I love you what else do you need?" He barked.

"Do you love me Harry? You say it but you haven't acted like it since we got back!" This conversation wasn't going how I hoped. "Do you even want me here? I can stay at my parents if you don't!"

"Of course I want you here. Why would you think that?" He looked at me as if my question was completely ridiculous.

"Should I list off my reasons again? Was I not clear the first time?"

"Charlie!" He yelled making me jump. "Please just chill the fuck out!" He snapped.

I couldn't believe he was acting like this. I felt the tears building but I wasn't going to cry in front him. Not saying a word I went to the kitchen. Trashing everything including the plates the food was on. I walked past the living room catching his eye as I made my way to the bedroom. I grabbed a towel and wash cloth before locking my self in the bathroom and turning on the shower.

Harry's POV

I felt terrible for talking to Charlie that way. I was still trying to figure out a plan to deal with my dad. It wasn't looking good and I didn't have the heart to tell her. The trial was next week and I didn't want to add to the stress. Somehow I managed to still do just that. I walked into the kitchen. The smell of tacos invading my senses. She had cooked my favorite meal. I cursed myself for being such a dick. All the food was in the trash. I sighed heading to the bedroom. Hearing the shower running I walked over turning the knob but it was locked.

"Shit" I shook my head. She only locked the door when she was really pissed.

I pulled my shirt off slipping out of my shoes and jeans. Replacing them with shorts before climbing in bed. I must have nodded off because I woke up when Charlie was sliding under the covers. Waiting until I thought she was sleep, I scooted in behind her wrapping my arm around her waist. I was surprised when she gently pushed it off after a few minutes. It was then that I noticed the barley audible sounds of sniffling.

She was crying and it was my fault.
