Mariana's POV- January 2016

I rang the doorbell and stepped back as I let out a deep breath. I turned my attention towards the elevator door that opened. I recognized the man that made his way out of the elevator, and I decided to greet him.

"Good afternoon Sir" I said.

Michael looked at me and frowned a bit as he opened the door to the apartment.

"I introduced myself to you as Michael, not sir or Mr. Nylander so I expect you to call me Michael"

"Good afternoon Michael" I greeted him.

He smiled as I nodded.

"Come on inside"

I followed him inside and closed the door behind me as he set the bag he had on the kitchen counter.

"Make yourself comfortable while I check on Will"

He signaled towards the living room as he disappeared into the hallway. I made my way over to the couch and took a seat just as my phone started ringing. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and looked at the screen. I had called my brother on my way here and he had not answered the call. I chose to ignore the call and put my phone on vibrate as I heard footsteps approaching.

"Well it looks like he's asleep"

"I can drop by another time" I stated.

He smiled.

"Nonsense, I was hoping you could help me"

"With?" I asked.

"Making him soup"

I stood up and made my way over as he smiled.

"I could help with that" I said

"Ok, that's good because I don't want to give him food poisoning"

"That would be bad" I told him.

"It would"

"So what am I making?" I asked.

"Alphabet soup with chicken and veggies"

I nodded.

"I just need a pot, and a cutting board" I stated.

"Let me get that for you"

He maneuvered around the kitchen and chuckled lightly.

"If his mother saw that he's only used two of the pots and pans she got for him"

I smiled and pulled the groceries out of the bag.

"This is our little secret"

"Of course" I said as he handed me the cutting board and knife.

"I'll put some water to boil"

I nodded and reached for the celery.

"Since you're studying abroad I'm going to guess that you're either done with your major or you're almost done"

"I'm done with my major" I stated.

He smiled.

"Congrats"

"I just need credits and Gen Eds" I told him.

"So when you're done here you're done with your undergraduate"

I nodded.

"I just have to wait until June for commencement" I said.

"You're probably wondering why my son has a concussion"
