He was named after a Greek hero, after the son of a sea nymph and son of a king-he was neither of those things. Achilles Bennett, just like his namesake, was the personification of grief. His name literally meant grief, 'the grief of the people' to be specific. And no one had experienced such grief as him: his older sister died when he was three, his father was arrested when he was five, his mother left him at the age of eight. He was left to live with his grandmother, Sheila Bennett, in Mystic Falls, Virginia. It was there where he met eccentric and bold Elena Gilbert, it was there where he fell for eccentric and bold Elena Gilbert, it was there were he came to lose eccentric and bold Elena Gilbert.

Achilles Bennett began to show his powers at a young age, having dreams about the past, present, and future. It was the reason why his mother left him, because she didn't want to deal with another witch in the family. At first he began to deny that he had powers, suppressing his magic until it came out in a burst and hurt one of his school friends. It was then where Sheila Bennett came in and began to teach him how to use his magic, teaching him all about amulets, candles, grimoires, cauldrons, herbs, stones, symbols, and even talismans. When Bonnie began to show her magic, he joked that they could make their own Mystic Falls Coven.

He began to fall in love with Elena Gilbert while she was a sophomore in high school and he was a junior. He didn't know what made the bold and eccentric and loving girl so attractive to him, but she was interesting and he couldn't deny it.

His weaknesses are his family, especially his cousin, Bonnie, and his friends. He's like the male version of Bonnie, but a bit more sarcastic, a lot more hateful towards vampires—especially Damon Salvatore (but they become drinking buddies and diss each other a lot)—and a lot more angry. His powers are stronger whenever he is angry, which is many times because he has a short temper. He has more knowledge of the magical world due that he came to know that he was a witch at a young age.
