Genevieve Hemingway is an emergency dispatcher that gets a call from a sobbing girl saying that someone bit her and is after her, and then she hears a blood-curling scream and feet shuffling and the call ends. After that, Gen wants to find out what the hell is happening and through that finds out that vampires and werewolves exist and wants to tell the police but then Elijah appears and he shows her that they're not all bad.
While searching through NOLA, Elijah teaches her how to fight vampires and defend herself against them. Through that, she becomes a good friend to him, and the rest of the Mikaelson clan.
Genevieve was studying art history, but then changes her major to forensic science in order for that to help her take care of the vampire problem in New Orleans.
