TITLE | Prince of Thorns
OC NAME | Malik Ebeid-Maas
FACE CLAIM | Zayn Malik
SEASON(S) | S1
LOVE INTEREST | Hope Mikaelson
SUMMARY |

❝Everybody is going to be dead one day, just give it time.❞

Malik was given his name for one sole reason—he was meant to be king. As the heir to the Somerset Coven he is meant to lead and sacrifice his life for the rest of the coven. But, Malik is just a boy. He doesn't know anything of sacrifice, especially when it comes to the old people that sacrificed his father to their ancestors. All he knows about is how wonderful magic is, and the price it costs to those that practice it.

OTHER |

• Malik was born to Yasmin Ebeid, a powerful Pakistani witch who moved to the UK when she was teen because her parents wanted a better life for her and her siblings. They were also witches, but kept to themselves afraid that they would be persecuted just like they were in Pakistan.
His father was an English witch, the leader of a coven in a small village. He was killed by the Elders sometime when Malik was a child, so all he knows about his father are stories that his mother tells him and photographs she keeps hidden under her bed.
• He loves his mother above all else. She was the support system one was supposed to have, teaching him both magic and mundane things. She was in tune with nature, preferring every kind of natural magic that flowed through the cobbled streets of Bradford-on-Avon.
• The Somerset Coven is a coven in the small village of Bradford-on-Avon, just eight miles outside of Bath. It's always had a magical feel to it, with its cobbled narrow streets and quaint little shops. It's right on the edge of the Cotswolds (historic villages made with Cotswold stone [a yellow coloured limestone]) and built around the river Avon. It has 13th Century bridges and abundant greenery, a romantic place to take a stroll. Malik and his mother live in an old weavers' cottage that was converted into a home.
• The Somerset Coven make their HQ in an old cloth mill in the centre of town, appearing like an ordinary private building. The walls are covered with herbs, both dried and fresh. The scent of them moved through everywhere in the building, including the rooms that were closed off. In other words, it's like a giant greenery room. There, the witches meet weekly and converse about their holidays and their spells and the news. A lot like old people in a book club, except with magic.
• Malik Ebeid-Maas is the Crown Prince of the Somerset Coven. His father, Franklin Maas, was the Crown Prince of the coven before he was killed. It's a position of power, alot like the Regents of the witches in New Orleans. The difference is that it's by family, a lot like royalty of around the world. It is said that the Maas family have actual ancestors in the English royal family, beginning with Jacquetta of Luxembourg (the mother of the very Queen consort Elizabeth Woodville and grandmother of Elizabeth of York), Countess Rivers, and continuing the bloodline of magic through her youngest daughter, Catherine Woodville.
• Although Malik is the Crown Prince of the Somerset Coven, his aunt is the ruling Crown Princess until he comes of age (when he's twenty-one). Beverly Anne Maas (Aunt Bev to Malik), who likes to think of herself as someone of great power and authority and willingness to do everything necessary to achieve it, is the current Crown Princess of the Somerset Coven. She is ruthless and cunning, something Malik has learned from her. After all, it was her who had her brother burned alive for committing treason against the coven. She loves power, it enthrals her like nothing before, and she will do everything to continue in power, even if it's killing members of her own family.
• Caroline learned that the Somerset Coven has a Crown Prince who has been going to regular school (all thanks to Bonnie Bennett), so while travelling through the UK she searches for them and tells them about her school—the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted. A school in a small town in the centre of Virginia that hides as a school for the spoiled and rich kids of the world, when in fact is a school for the supernaturally gifted and those who have been affected by the supernatural. When the elder is confused about this, she tells him that she is personal friends with the one and only Bonnie Bennett. It's with that the elder believes her, and takes her to their meeting place (their HQ).
• Malik's first meeting with Caroline doesn't go well. He's cocky, due to him being practically raised to believe that the world revolves around him. He even blows smoke to her face, which makes Caroline pull that cigarette from his fingers and stomp on it, then crossing her arms and giving him a long-ass speech about the proper manners he needs to have when he's at the Salvatore Boarding School.
• Beverly knows this is a good idea. If her nephew is out of the picture, away from their village and their country, she can begin her plan on getting rid of him. First, Yasmin Ebeid, the mother and former wife of her brother.
• As soon as Malik arrives to the school, he receives a call that his mother was found dead. The elders believe it was a spell gone wrong, or maybe vampires found her. Malik is distraught by the news, and his anger and sorrow create a vortex of power that cause a large fire in the courtyard of the school. The flames go everywhere, and his screams are heard all around the school. The Saltzman twins help control the power and subdue him, using their siphoning to take away a bit of his powers and put him to sleep. When he wakes up, he meets Hope Mikaelson. The first words she says to him are, "I know how it feels to lose the person you care about most; my mom's gone, too."
• Their romance is a slow-burn, since Malik doesn't have time for romance (he likes to think it's stupid and futile and unnecessary). Hope and Malik get close, to the point where Malik tells her stories about his mother and his life back in Bradford-in-Avon. In return, Hope tells him about her parents. Stories, too. The little moments where the biggest monster in the supernatural world was the most caring being when it came to his daughter, the moments where her ferocious mother sand lullabies while they drove across the country.
• Malik doesn't care much about rules, so his uniform is always wrong and he's always speaking out or getting in fights with the rest of the students. He likes making Rafael Waithe angry, and using his powers to have a battle with Lizzie Saltzman, and surprisingly learning dark magic with Josie Saltzman. He likes to cause trouble, have it be with magic or with the most mundane thing.
• Beverly's powers are strong, so she'll cast any spell and have any creature try and destroy Malik in any way possible. Her speciality is dreams, spells that make him relieve his parents death over and over again.
• Malik has to choose between revenge, his coven, or family. He wants to kill his aunt for the murder of his parents, but it is frowned upon in the coven to kill another witch, and Beverly is the only family he has alive.
