The Bet

The show this particular night was a difficult one for Clarke. She had so much going through her head that it made it hard to focus on the task at hand. but managed to get through it anyway and pushed  her thoughts to the back of her mind. She made it to the end of the show with no mistakes.

Clarke headed towards the dressing rooms to pack her things and head to the hotel. The door opened and Brylee walked in behind her. Clarke glanced over her shoulder  and resumed her packing. Brylee took a seat in a chair nearest to her.

"You seemed really distracted tonight." She said as Clarke zipped her bag looked up finally.

"To be honest I was distracted. All I could think about was Janet and you." Brylee looked surprised.

"Me? Why were you thinking about me?" She asked and scooted to the edge of her seat.

"I just feel like I didn't handle this situation very well. I was really upset and feeling super vulnerable last night."

Brylee looked confused. "So you're saying that's the only reason you showed any kind of interest in me?" She looked at Clarke with disappointment.

"No, that's not what I'm saying at all." Brylee stood up and walked over to Clarke.

"Then what is the problem Clarke?" She said. "I can't stop thinking about us. I cant get you outta my head." She said and pressed herself against Clarke.

"I told you, I don't want that with you. I love her Brylee, I thought you understood that." Clarke said shook her head disapprovingly. "I'm sorry but you are not worth losing her." Clarke was firm but Brylee was persistent and wouldn't take no for an answer as she twirled Clarke's dreads around her fingers.

"Tell me Clarke... besides her famous name, what does she have that I don't?" She asked.

"Class." Janet said, startling them both. She had been standing in the doorway. As she approached them, Brylee took a couple of steps back from Clarke. "Now heard her with my own ears tell you that the answer was no and you're still trying..." She said. "You told me she wasn't at the hotel last night and I knew you were lying but I let it slide." Janet brought her lips close to Brylee's ear. "It takes a special kind of woman to pursue someone that clearly loves someone else." Janet said and met Brylee's gaze. "Desperate is not a good look for you honey." She whispered as Brylee's face turned bright shade of red. She glanced over at Clarke who gazed at Janet in amazement.

Clarke hadn't taken her eyes off her. Janet turned her focused to Clarke and smiled. "Hey you." She said and smiled sweetly. She tugged at Clarke's dreads as she pulled her into a soft and sweet, then traced them with her finger tips. "You ready to go? I've arranged for you to ride with me back to the hotel, if you want." Clarke smiled and threw her bag over her shoulder.

"I'd love to." Clarke said an threw her bag over her shoulder. Janet took her by the hand and they headed for the door. Suddenly Janet stopped and glanced back at Brylee.

"Oh and Brylee its been a pleasure working with you. I really hope you enjoy the show tomorrow because it will be your last with me. We won't be renewing your contract this year. Have a great night." She smiled and lead Clarke out of the room.

Brylee slumped down in the chair. "Guess that's what I get for messing with the boss' girl."

Janet and Clarke returned to the hotel. She had arranged for Preston to move all of Clarke's things from the shared room with Brylee and in to her two story suite.

"Damn? None of my rooms have ever looked like this."

Janet laughed. "I guess you have to be as famous as that one chick who sang that one song..." she joked.

Clarke sat down on the arm of the couch. She looked over at Janet and held out her hand. "Come here." Janet looked up from her phone and the. tossed it on the couch behind Clarke. She walked over to Clarke and sat on her lap. "Hi beautiful."

"Hi." Janet responded, blushing.

"So I read your letter..." She said.

"And..." Janet responder, eager to hear what Clarke had to say.

"And I want to move past it, but there's something I need to tell you first."

"I already know about you and Brylee. Gil saw her wearing your Penny shirt that night and kind of figured it out." Janet said. There was a sadness in her eyes. Clarke shook her head.

"There was no me and Brylee. It almost happened but Gil knocked on the door and then you showed up. I was feeling super vulnerable and I almost made a horrible mistake." Janet pulled Clarke's face to meet her eyes.

"Can we start over?"

Clarke smiled, tears falling now. "I'd like that." Janet stood up and held her hand out.

"Hi, My name is Janet." She said. Clarke put her hand in Janet's and stood up.

"Clarke."

"It's very nice to meet you Clarke." Janet smiled and screamed as Clarke picked her, threw over her shoulder and took her upstairs the bedroom.

"It's time for us to get to know each other a little better Ms. Jackson." Clarke said popping her on the butt and kicked the bedroom door closed with her foot.
