- TRIGGER WARNING -

~ Ethan's POV ~

"Sir, she doesnt do her job, no matter how many times we ask her to do anything, she never gets anything done!" One of my employees complains, crossing her arms over her chest as she gives me the exact same frustrated expression the other three waitresses are giving me.
I sigh and rub my face with my hands "I know, I know, I'll talk to her."
One of the other waitresses chimes in "How many times have you already spoken to her!?! Something else needs to be done sir, Im sorry to say it."
I nod and take my hands away from my face as I stand from my desk "I'll talk to her, all of you carry on as normal please."
Just as the waitresses turn to the door of my office, one of the waiters runs in "Mr Nestor...she's fallen asleep on one of table 3."
All of the waitresses turn and give me a look, further proving their point, and I usher them all out of my office, before following after them and walking back into the main restaurant area. As soon as Im standing behind the counter, I can see her, sitting with her head on table 3, sleeping. Thank god there arent any customers in right now. I cant help but sigh, this is the fourth time this has happened. My eyes fill with sadness as I make my way over to her and crouch down beside the chair she's sleeping on. I gently shake her shoulder to wake her.
"(Y/N), hey." I whisper softly as her eyes flutter open.
She blinks a few times and rubs her eyes, before her eyes widen and she jumps to her feet. She looks like a deer in headlights.
"S-Sir, oh my god, Im so sorry! I-I didnt mean, oh  god, Im so sorry!" I can hear the sincerity in her broken voice, and I have to swallow the lump in my throat.
"We need to talk (Y/N), in my office." Keeping my voice calm, I turn and start walking back to my office, knowing (Y/N) is shuffling behind me, hanging her head in shame as the other employees watch from behind the counter.
My stomach churns with guilt as I reach my office, I really dont want to do this, but I have no choice. Maybe there's some way I can work this out?
"Have a seat." I tell her as I stroll over to my desk and sit down behind it, (Y/N) following and sitting down in the chair on the other side of my desk.
I clear my throat "(Y/N), this isnt the first time something like this has happened. Im afraid that if I dont do something about it, the other employees will think Im cutting you too much slack and that I dont value professionalism at all. I have my own suspicions about your frequent dizzy spells and near constant drowsiness, but as you have not given me the actual reason behind them, I cannot justify your actions. By everyone else's standards, you're simply being lazy or not getting enough sleep, and although I dont believe that is the case, you havent given me an actual reason to disagree with that, which means Im forced to do something I really dont want to do, unless you tell me what's going on."
(Y/N) sniffles as she stares down at her knees, her hands held tightly in her lap "There's nothing going on sir." She mumbles.
If she would just give me a reason, tell me why she's so tired and dizzy all the time, I could offer her some help. Whatever the reason is behind her actions, Im sure it's totally reasonable, but the fact she wont tell me means I have no evidence to prove that she is anything but lazy, and Im not allowed to keep a "lazy" person employed. I close my eyes in a pained blink and look away from her, before opening them and turning back to her "Im sorry (Y/N), but I cant have you working here anymore."
She nods, not daring to look up at me "Im so sorry Mr Nestor, for e-everything."
I shake my head "Dont be, Im sure it's not your fault."
She laughs slightly and wipes her eyes "But it is, it's completely my fault. Thank you for ever considering employing me in the first place, and for giving me the chance to work in the same place as a man as understanding and wonderful as yourself." She stands up and smiles weakly at me "W-Would it be ok if I, uh, finish my shift for tonight? I wont ask you to pay me, I just want to enjoy my last hours here."
I nod slowly "Of course you can (Y/N), I'll send you your pay in the mail tomorrow."
She shakes her head dismissively "That wont be necessary, but thank you. Goodbye, Mr Nestor."
I smile gently at her "I'll make sure to come and see you at the end of your shift tonight to make sure you're ok, it's not goodbye (Y/N), we can stay friends after this. And please, call me Ethan."
A small smile crosses her face "In that case, thank you, and goodnight, Ethan."
And with that, she leaves my office. I couldnt but pick up on the strange way she was phrasing the things she said just then, the way she spoke made the hairs at the back of my neck stand on end, and I feel very on edge. Im sure it's just me overthinking things though. I'll see how she's doing at the end of her shift. Distracting myself from thoughts of her, I go back to my paperwork.

I release a sigh of relief and smile at the pile of paperwork that I just completed. Standing to my feet, I turn my head and click my neck to relieve the cramp after looking down at my desk for so long. I make my way out of my office, and see (Y/N)'s coat and bag still hanging up on one of the clothes pegs in the corridor behind the counter. Good, she hasnt left early, I can still make sure she's alright, and pay her a small amount of money upfront just to help her out. I cant shake the feeling that something is going on with her. She always has white things poking out of her work shirt sleeves, and every time I see them I mistake them as bandages, but they cant be that. If she was seriously injured, she would call in sick, or at least tell me in case she needed a break. I just wish she would tell me what's going on so that I could help her, but if this is all I can do, then I can make the most of it. Strolling around the counter, my eyes scan the restaurant, to see a handful of customers sat at various tables, laughing and chatting, enjoying their food. But there's no sign of (Y/N). I approach one of the other waitresses.
"Where's (Y/N)?" I ask.
The waitress sighs "She went to the bathroom 40 minutes ago and hasnt come out since."
I nod at her, a frown taking over my face as I march over to the staff restroom. There's a possibility she's upset about losing her job and gone to cry in there, and if that's the case, I need to be there. I really hope she's alright.
As soon as I reach the staff restroom door, I knock on it gently.
"(Y/N)? Are you ok in there?" I call in a soft voice.
No response.
"(Y/N)?" I knock again.
Silence.
Without sparing a second thought, I whip out the emergency key from my back pocket, and unlock the staff restroom door from the outside. As the manager, Im entrusted with the key to this restroom and the customer one, in case of medical emergencies or people getting trapped in cubicles. My shaking hands fumble with the keys, and I hurry to unlock the door, before pushing it open. My eyes widen in horror at the sight in front of me, my stomach drops, and my heart jolts. There, lying on the floor, partially held up by the wall she's leaning on, is an unconscious (Y/N), with blood seeping through her work shirt sleeves. She's lying in a small pool of her own blood, and all colour has drained from her face.
"SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE!" I shout urgently as I run to her, lifting her into my arms and cradling her, then removing my jacket and using it to apply pressure to her wounds.
One of the waiters speeds in, and gasps at what he sees, before he runs off again and calls an ambulance. I start crying into (Y/N)'s hair, slow and steady tears as I struggle to control my breathing. I cant believe I didnt pick up on this, I cant believe I didnt notice. I should have noticed. I could lose her, she could already be gone. My eyes close in a pained blink at the thought of losing her, and I place a kiss on top of her head, applying as much pressure as I can to her open wounds and waiting an eternity for the ambulance to arrive. Please (Y/N), stay alive for me, please.
