I looked at the letter that was in my hands.

The paper crisp and clean with my name written at the top.

Rhiannon, it would be a pleasure to have you at our university.

I wanted to jump up and down. To tell the whole world that I’d been accepted. Though deep down inside me I knew there was this feeling in my stomach. The feeling that I’d have to tell Ash at some stage, and I wasn’t looking forward to that.

I checked my dress in the mirror before placing the letter on my bed and pulling on a pair of heels. Ash was finally graduating and it was his day, not mine. We were going to celebrate him being able to walk again, and him getting the grades he deserved, and him finally achieving his goals.

“Rhi, I hope to leave some time this year!” Sam called up the stairs sarcastically. I huffed and ran a brush through my hair before grabbing my bag and camera. Brook was waiting at the bottom of the stairs with Sam who looked rather impatient. I noticed Ash wasn’t anywhere to be seen, that was odd.

“Where’s Ash?” I asked as Sam shut a window and took his car keys from the table. He looked at me before speaking.

“He went ahead with some friends, apparently they have to set up early or something” Sam opened the front door and gestured for us to leave ahead of him. Brook and I rolled our eyes at each other then began to walk towards the car.

“It’s odd Ash didn’t mention he was going early…” I muttered to Brook who just shrugged her shoulders and climbed into the front seat of the car. I climbed in the back and checked my phone for any texts off Ash. Nothing from him. I decided to send him a good luck message before the ceremony.

Good luck, you’ll do great! Look for me in the audience, always thinking of you. Love Rhi <3

“I hope Ash doesn’t get stage fright today” Brook commented as Sam slammed the car door and turned on the engine. I was wondering what had put Sam in a foul mood. He’d already mentioned that he thought graduation was stupid and something about ‘breaking out of stereotypes’.

“I’m sure he won’t Brook, he has the most confidence out of us four” I laughed with Brook who had turned around to speak to me. Sam huffed through his teeth as he began driving down the road. He clearly was annoyed over something and I was wondering whether he and Brook had argued.

“What’s up Mr. grumpy pants?” I asked with a mocking tone. Sam looked at me in the rear-view mirror and rolled his eyes. Brook turned round to me and gave me an expression that said it all. My guessing was that they’d probably argued and Sam hadn’t woken up in a good mood anyway, and was now on his way to graduation which he hated.

“I’ll take that as let’s not talk to Rhi then…” I checked my phone again but Ash had sent nothing. It just seemed odd he’d not replied to me or told me he was leaving early. He had been acting pretty weird over the past few days and I was wondering what was up with him.

“I’m so excited to see Ash finally graduate; he’s definitely had the worst couple of months” Brook spoke turning around to face me. I smiled at my friend, realising that she understood everything that had happened the past months. She’d been there for everything and stayed with my every night Ash was sick in the hospital. She’d stayed up late to help me bring medicine for Ash and get him upstairs and into bed. She’d been everything and I had to somehow find some way to repay her for what she’d done.
