I ran to Everglen. Biana had told me that Sophie was in trouble. I had a small dagger at my side, but I had designed it after a shamkniv, like King Dimitar's from Ravagog. I gripped the black leather handle, but it was still in its sheath. I burst into the door. "BIANA!" I yelled urgently.
She Alden rushed down the glimmering staircase. His head perked up at the sight of me and he looked a little frightened when he spotted my tiny shamkniv-dagger. Della came up behind him. "What's wrong, dear?" she asked worriedly. "B-Biana said that Sophie was in trouble..." My voice trailed off. "She did? I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but... Sophie's perfectly safe." Alden said with his crisp accent, tilting his head in confusion. I looked behind him and saw that he was holding something behind him, it was black and thick. So was Della.
"I, uh, Alden? Della? What's that behind you?" I asked. They looked at each other. Suddenly, Alden's figure shimmered and contorted painfully into something different. My hand instinctively flew to my dagger and I pulled it out. They turned around and flicked on their cloaks. I saw the white eye. Neverseen?! I pulled in a sharp gasp. I heard a small cackle. "So, Song, you only came for our little Moonlark, eh?" "Alden's" voice had dropped about two octaves lower and I squeezed the handle of my weapon tightly.
The guy 'presumed as Alden' flicked his index finger at me and "Della" jumped at me. I whipped out my dagger, the jet-black blade shimmering dangerously. Elves never know that their blades are jagged until they pierce the skin. Then it's too late. I spun it in my hand and struck. Wow. These dudes are fast.
I barely missed a hit from Della's dopplëganger and I felt a huge, sharp thing slice my side. I gasped out sharply in pain and I spun around and sliced "Alden's" shoulder. He howled in pain, and I froze in satisfaction. But then "Della" struck.
She pointed a cold, silver melder to my head and I froze in place. "Now, Mr. Song—"
"DON'T CALL ME THAT!" I spat. The Neverseen agent struck my face with his hand. "Don't interrupt. Anyway, Mr. Song, you don't make a peep, or this melder will go off and you will most likely forget Sophie."
I froze for a second and then sighed in defeat. "But you don't leave a scratch on Sophie, hear?" I ordered. The melder was pressed harder into my head. "We give the orders." he growled. I growled in response and I blacked out to a cold, painful sensation in my body.

I woke up with a jolt. I was bound to a chair, wrapped in chains. I struggled against the strong bonds, rubbing my skin on the metal painfully. Once I was drenched in sweat from all the struggling, I was panting and leaning onto my bonds.
Then I heard sudden chuckling. "You'll never make it, boy." it whispered. I froze. "Who are you?!" I asked. I looked at my sides and groaned. No dagger.
"Looking for this?" The cloaked figure stepped out of the shadows and spun my dagger on his finger. "I must say, artfully crafted, I'll give you that." he said. "Who are you?!" I demanded. He flicked his cloaked gaze at me.
"Me?" he asked. I clenched my fists. Then I heard a moan. Then another. Then, a: "Where are we?!"
I perked up. Is that... Linh? I clenched my jaw tightly. "WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH HER?!" I yelled defiantly. He flicked off his hood and stared at me with his hard gaze and I took in a sharp breath at who it was.
It was a guy, about my age, but tan-toned skin and sea-green eyes and brown hair. He glared at me. "Who are you?" I asked. He sighed and shook his head. "Why would I tell you that?" he asked, sharpening my blade on a rock. I glared. "Because you can." I remarked.
He looked up at me. "Alright, pretty boy. You quit your games or else..."
HIs palm lit into flames. "You're gonna regret it." he snarled. I backed my face away from the flames. Then I took a shallow breath, channeling my energy onto the shadows that surrounded the place. Then I took a shadow reading of his shadow-vapor.
I nearly reeled my head back in surprise. His vapor... was so thick. It was choking me. Then I focused on reality. He was shivering. "It got cold. Did you read me?" he asked. I stuck my nose onto the air. "So what if I did?" I countered.
He scowled. "Then your sister gets it." he replied. My smug smile turned into a desperate glare. "YOU LET HER GO!" I yelled. He scoffed. "Nah."
My vision blurred red. "Let me go." I snarled. He put his face close to mine. "No." he whispered. I scowled and spat in his face, and he reeled back in disgust. "Yuck." he wiped his face.
"Now, let me go."
"I think not."
"Boy, when I get free, you're gonna wish you never lived..."
"Huh, I don't see a lock pick anywhere..."
I glared at him, then I heard a huge door open somewhere in the distance. I closed my eyes and spread my consciousness around, and the shadows spread out like rushing water. I felt... quick, petite steps, a swish of a cape...
My eyes snapped open.
Sophie.
