CHAPTER 1

"This way Ma'am." The air hostess directed me as I gave her my boarding pass with a polite smile.

"Thanks." Adjusting my backpack, I made my way towards my window seat, too happy that I got one.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome onboard Flight 4B7 with service from New Delhi to London. We are currently third in line for take-off and are expected to be in the air in approximately seven minutes time. We ask that you please fasten your seatbelts at this time and secure all baggage underneath your seat or in the overhead compartments. We also ask that your seats and table trays are in the upright position for take-off. Please turn off all personal electronic devices, including laptops and cell phones. Smoking is prohibited for the duration of the flight. Thank you for choosing Indian Airlines. Enjoy your flight.

I sat down on my seat as the announcement were made and I fished out for my phone from my jean's pocket. I pressed the power button of my phone to turn it off but as soon as three options of power off, flight mode and restart popped up on the screen, I stopped. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as it was harder to control those tears.

My flight hasn't even left its runway and I am already missing my family. I don't want to leave them and looking at my family's picture as a wallpaper on my phone made me a little emotional. A smile crept its way as I saw their happy and proud faces.

Proud.

Yes, they were proud of me and nothing in this world could make me happier that I made my parents feel that. But today whatever and wherever I am going is all because of them and I can't leave without thanking them one more time.

I quickly opened my family WhatsApp group 'The VVIPS', the silly name given by my little sister, Navya and quickly wrote my message.

I am on my seat. Thanks for everything. I love you <3.

I quickly hit the send and not waiting for the reply I switched off my phone and kept it aside. I fastened my seat belt and giddiness overwhelmed me as my flight was about to take off.

Once in the sky, I looked out my window. The white blanket of clouds made me wonder how unexpected this life could be especially when you expect the least. A few weeks ago, I hadn't even thought I would be flying high up in the sky, all the way towards London but seems like I was destined to be here even after I threw away my acceptance letter in the bin.

Relaxing on my seat with eyes closed, I recalled my own stupidity and smiled sheepishly to myself, it was the luckiest yet the most dramatic day of life.

Irked with all the early morning traffic, I parked my bike, my baby, my birthday gift, my Scooty Pep+ in my favourite colour Purple outside my house. Although it's something every Indian girl has but mine was special because...apparently it was mine.

"You came?" Mummy asked as soon as I entered and the small bells above the door hanging for the decoration rang. I walked towards her into the kitchen but spotted my father sitting in the dining area. Hearing my footstep Papa folded his newspaper and keeping it aside patted the chair next to him for me.

"Good morning Kavya, come to have breakfast with us."

"I hadn't brushed my teeth yet." I told him sitting next to him.

"So Navya dragged you to drop her."

"Evidently you can't win with her." I said as Mummy came out from the kitchen holding two casseroles and sat in front of me.
