CHAPTER 3

The exhilaration for the next day didn't let me sleep much and I was checking my clock after every 15 minutes making sure I hadn't overslept. Avoiding any chance of oversleeping and missing my very first day of the college, I sat up.

I checked the time on my phone and it was showing 6.00 am for London and 11.30 a.m for India. A yawn escaped my lips tempting me to sleep for 15 more minutes but there was also a high chance I might end up waking up at 9, so deciding against it, I got up lazily and walked towards my small washroom in my room.

It's my first day and I wanted to leave a good impression. I brushed my teeth for an extra 5 minutes and checked them into the mirror. I took a longs shower and applied good moisturizer along with sunscreen although there is no Sun. Makeup was not really my zone so I decided to skip it but then again, I have heard most of the girls here wear makeup even to their schools and I am going to college. I didn't want to look any different so I decided to give makeup an attempt.

Whilst I have lot of time for myself but didn't have enough to ruin my face and take another shower, I stuck to simple BB cream, a single coat of mascara as it enhances from the glasses and my simple plum tinted lip balm. I think I overdid a little so dabbing some tissue to wipe off the excess, I looked pretty decent. I am here to study and not for a fashion parade after all.

I went back into my room and took out my clothes which I decided to wear last night. I decided to wear a dark washed blue jeans and a pink colored top and over that, I wore a pink jumper. I wore tiny pearls in my ears. I tied my hair into a ponytail as I don't like my hair falling into my eyes while I am studying. Once down, I looked myself into the mirror and I was quite satisfied with myself. I contemplated wearing contacts today but then I didn't want to get into the hassle of dry eyes, so I stuck to my glasses.

Checking my the time in the clock, I realized there was still more than an hour for me to leave. I had checked on google and the result showed that my college is just 2.3 miles away. Utilizing the time I had, I went to a small cabinet which had a glass door where my Lord Ganesha was sitting along with Lord Hanuman. I am a very religious person as it was something I was taught ever since I started understanding things.

My Mummy always says to begin the day with the name of the God and I always did so today when I am about to live my dream all courtesy to him and my parents, how could I forget to thank them and seek more strength. I did my prayers and done with it I closed the glass cabinet. I then wore my shoes and headed towards my destination skipping my breakfast because of my nonstop growing giddiness.

I entered my destination 'Business School of London' on my Maps, and the lady with shrill voice began her work as I began mine, and that was walking.

2.6 miles and the estimated time was 25 minutes.

I have got this covered. It won't be that much. I can easily walk this much. It just 2.6 miles. I began walking but that distance didn't seem to be reducing. After walking for 15 minutes, it still showed 1.4 miles. I increased my speed and continued to walk faster and it took me 45 minutes to reach my destination.

Google lady is a liar!

At this moment, I just miss my Scooty, my scooter on which I used to roam on all the streets of Delhi but now, I don't even have a bicycle. I could have used public transports but I didn't had any idea about them on my first day and 2.6 miles didn't seem a lot to me until now. Until now, when I converted miles to kilometres, which was our Indian standard unit of measurement, and realized that I just walked 4.1 kilometres in a day.

Out of breath, I looked up my huge college gates and all of a sudden my feet turned cold and every step felt heavy when I met so many strange faces. I wiped my palms on my jeans and taking a deep breath, I took a step towards my dream.
