CHAPTER 14

Luckily, I have made a friend like Eveleigh which help me and supports me. Not to forget my new family at Delhi Swaad. Whenever I enter the doors of that restaurant, it feels I am back at home. The kitchen reminds me of my home and everyone there is like a family.

Today I had bought Eveleigh here because she wanted to try the 'real food' I had been bragging about but when we came here two members of the staff were gone on the leave and workload increased on us but Eveleigh volunteered to work and Aman Uncle couldn't be more thankful to her.

Our shifts had ended and Eveleigh was busy eating as the restaurant was now closed while I was sitting on one of the corner chairs with Uncle checking the accounts. The job, which I voluntarily took up as I was good in maintaining accounts and the sole reason of doing masters in business administration.

My phone rang and I knew it must be from Mummy without even checking the ID as I know it's her time to call. I picked up my phone and swiped to answer making me hiss in pain as I once again scratched my finger drawing out minor blood from my broken screen.

"Hi Mummy." I said scanning my finger.

"Are you busy?" She asked.

"Yes. I'll call you in some time."

"It's so late Kavya. You are still out." She said so loudly that Uncle must have heard her as well. He chuckled lightly making me smile sheepishly.

"Mummy it's just 10.40 here. I am five and half-hours behind. Remember."

"Fine...call me once you reach home." She said and hang up the phone.

"Tell your mummy you are here safe with us." Uncle said and I nodded.

"She unnecessarily worries a lot. It must be 3 or 4 in India yet she is awake just to make sure I have reached my dorms safely."

"She is your mother afterall." Uncle said.

"All Indian Mums are the same." Karan interjected making his way towards us while wiping his hands with a napkin.

"You are right." I agreed as he sat in front of me.

"By the way what happened to your phone?

"It fell down." I said feebly and he took my phone to examine it.

"How?"

"It all started with the tip Aman." Eveleigh interjected making them frown.

"Nothing Uncle...she is just mad." I said looking at her and she winked.

"Why don't you get it repaired?" Karan asked.

"It's costing me more than a new phone and right now I want to save some money." I told them and Uncle sighed.

"You don't have to worry about the money Kavya."

"No Uncle...please...it's just the matter of few days. I'll get it done soon."

"Karan, why don't you give her the old phones we have. We have plenty of old phones." Uncle asked him.

"They are ancient phones Papa. No one uses them anymore. I wonder why you haven't thrown them yet." He said and I smiled.

"They are still working and are from my hard earned money. Kids these days don't value the money." He said and I couldn't help but smile.

Same dialogues just as my family.

"It's fine Uncle. It's just a matter of a few days. Besides, I just need to video call my parents, so this phone is perfectly fine." I said and he bobbed his head.
