Chapter 8: A Promise Not Kept

❈ ⋯ ❈

I was never a huge fan of the fairs. My family never really had a huge inkling for them. We normally went to our grandparent's house to eat, swim and leave.

We kinda used our grandparents for there pool.

Today, though, I felt particularly excited about it.

I've been to carnivals before. I've seen fireworks.

What's different this time is, I'm hanging out with a gang.

The eastside gang in particular.

Should've added this to my bucket list.

I put on a white bodysuit with some blue shorts and I put my hair into two braids that laid on my shoulders with red hair bands.

I grabbed out my NASA sweatshirt, since it had red, white, and blue and some dirty white converse. I tied the sweatshirt around my waist and texted Nick.

Ready.

Alright, be over in 15 minutes. Be ready.

I put my phone in my satchel and went downstairs shutting my door. No one was home so I texted my mom I would be out late.

I sat down on my couch and played on my phone.

Here.

I nodded at my phone and walked outside slipping it in my back pocket. I put my braided pigtails on my shoulders and smiled gently.

Nick nodded back and I got into his convertible.

I rested my arm on the window sill of the car and we began driving.

There is something so nice about feeling the wind on my face. It ran down my neck, hearing it roaring in your ear. I close my eyes in pure bliss and feel a small smile creep on my face.

Nick looked at me, "We're here." He turned off the car and opened the door.

I smiled, adjusted my shorts, and got out. I looked around the carnival in awe. The flashing lights. The murmur of excited voices. The distant screaming of thrilled, cotten-candy-funnel-cake-filled children.

I feel someone grab my hand and I jolt away from my thoughts. Nick laughs. "Sorry. We have to make this believable."

I nod and take his hand looking around.

My palms are so disgustingly sweaty, but the least I can do, is play it off.

I laugh awkwardly. "Where's everyone?"

Nick looks at me. "You didn't bring your friends?"

I shrug, "They didn't respond back to my text, so I kinda assumed..."

Nick nodded, "They are inside. They told me towards the Farris wheel."

I nod and I squeeze Nick's hand. He turns to me. "What? What's wrong?"
