Chapter 13: Man Cave Pt. 2

❈ ⋯ ❈

I couldn't sleep. I was tired, but every time I was about to fall asleep, my body shook itself awake.

I sighed and rubbed to myself. I went on my phone and looked up "How to fall asleep."

Warm milk. Warmth. Will do.

I stand up, adjust my shorts, and quietly open my door.

It was completely dark. I grabbed my phone and turned on the flashlight. I looked around, and snuck into the kitchen.

I yawn softly, and go to the fridge, I grab one that isn't open and pour my glass. I put it in the microwave for a minute and tap my foot against the ground anxiously.

"Tapping your foot isn't gonna protect you from killers, Evens."

I roll my eyes, "Why are you awake?"

He hums and comes into the kitchen with his flashlight on. "I think the same reason you are. Can't sleep, love."

I sigh and relax my tense shoulders. We meet eyes, and I look away first.

"Are you gonna heat up my milk?" He laughs.

"Shut up. I just want to sleep. This is what good old Google said." I shrug and grab out my milk.

He chuckles, "I suppose it does have all the answers." He says sarcastically.

I shrug, "I suppose. Goodnight." I walk past him, and he stops me by grabbing my hand.

"Claire." He whispers.

I look back at him, "What? Why are you whispering?"

He puts his finger up to my lips and looks at me.

I feel my heart immediately thump. Loudly. I grip his hand and he leads me over back to the kitchen. He grabs out a glass. "Hold on."

He puts the glass in front of me, and I look around. "What? What is it?"

"You forgot to heat up my milk."

I smack him. Hard. He winces and holds his arm laughing still. "That was fucking hilarious. You should've seen your face."

I laugh fakely back and roll my eyes, "Asshole."

"Make me some milk, women."

"Call me women one more time and I'll be shoving that glass into your ass."

He smirks, "Kinky. Leave in the bedroom though, love."

I groan and walk towards my room flipping him off as I walk inside my room.

I sit down on my bed and groan again.

I close my eyes and fall back, it hitting against the soft fabric. I sigh softly and rub my head. I open my eyes to darkness again and fix myself. Letting my head lay on the pillow.

I close my eyes again and sit there for a moment. I hum to myself gently and adjust my body a few times before finding a comfortable position.

My eyes feel heavy and then I feel it. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I open my eyes quickly and look around. My eyes darting between every corner, door, and window.

Still can't see anything.

I can hear footsteps. Coming closer. I narrow my eyes to try and figure out what's in front of me.

"Claire? Where are you at?"

"Nick! You scared the shit out of me."

"Of course I did." I can practically hear him roll his eyes.

"What are you doing here?"

"You said couldn't sleep. I won't be long."

I gag, "Oh my god. You are disgusting. Get out of my room."

He hums, "It's my room actually, love. Since I'm such a gentleman, I'm sleeping on the damn couch."

I don't respond and immediately feel bad. "I could've slept on the couch."

He turns on the light and shrugs, "It's fine. Just grabbing clothes."

"I'll go to the living room."

"No, it's fine. I'm probably gonna end up sleeping on the floor in here. I can't sleep in living rooms."

I nod, "You don't have too-"

He shakes his head, "You aren't sleeping on the floor."

I shrug and yawn. He smiles at me, "Does the milk thing really work?"

I sigh and shake my head, "There's a difference between tired, and tired but can't sleep."

He nods and grabs a few blankets from his closet. "Trust me. I know."

I sigh and sit on the couch. He hands me a soft fuzzy blanket and lays one of the comforters on the couch, and tosses down a pillow.

I look at him, "You sure you want too-"

He shakes his head and laughs, "You don't give up, huh?"

I smile weakly and look around. My unease seems to wonder else wear, and I can feel my feet moving. My eyes are suddenly heavy. They close all at once.
