Chapter 19: The Kiss That Broke Me

❈ ⋯ ❈

Whenever we were going it was a long ride.

So long, in fact, that Nick somehow managed to learn about my Justin Beiber obsession.

"So, you've been to 10 concerts. All the same tour?"

I nod, "Look, it was my favorite album"

He laughs and shakes his head, "Wow. I can't believe I have a crush on a girl who's obsessed with Justin Bieber." He chuckles.

I roll my eyes playfully, "Oh, hush."

He smiles, "Awe, did I hurt your feelings?"

I smirk and look at him, "Awe. No. You could never."

He laughs, "Not good enough reason?"

I shrug, "Not worth it."

He hums and nods, "I see you, Evens." He looks around and pulls into a parking spot.

I look around.

A beach.

I smile, he opens the door for me and takes my hand in his. He pulls me out of the car and walks me towards the beach.

I can hear the waves crashing. The spark of the light of fireflies. A soft hum of wind. The whistle of birds ready to settle for the night.

I look at him, "Nick." I pull him back towards me.

He looks at me and smiles, "Yeah?"

I look up at him, "I promised you...not the other way around."

He puts his arms around my waist and smiles. "Don't worry," He cups my cheek and runs his finger under my eyes, "I assure you, your good is gonna be much better than mine." He let's go of my waist and takes my hand.

He leads me to small blankets being held down by some rocks. I laugh and he sits down.

He pats the spot next to him, "Come on." He smiles.

I laugh and sit down. He looks at me, "Have you ever stargazed?"

I shake my head and smile weakly, "No, I've thought about it, though."

He smiles, "Okay. Good." He lays down and looks at me. "Get comfortable, Evens. It's gonna be a long pretty night."

I laugh and roll my eyes playfully. I lay down and he grabs me and pulls me closer to him. I smile and lay my head on his chest. He rests his hand on his arm the other one keeping the left side of my body warm.

I smile gently and look at the sky.

He's right. It was absolutely stunning. The sparkle of light stars sprinkled in the sky. The soft glimmer of the sun sinking below the sea, letting the stars glow on there own.

I move my eyes everywhere. The different specks of the stars. I smile to myself.

"It's so beautiful," I whisper.

He smiles at me, "Tell me about it."

I smile back and look at him. "Kiss me."

He loses his smile, "I can't,"

I sit up, "Why?"

He grabs my hand, "I have no right."

I sigh, "Nick...please...just do it..."

His fingers travel up my body. My legs. Arms. Neck. To my face. Goosebumps erupt all over my skin and I feel my heart beating.

"Claire." He looks at me and pulls his hand away.

I grab his hand and put it back on my cheek, "Please, Nick. So I know this isn't a physical thing. Kiss me."

He hums, "The problem is," He said as he leaned in, "if I kissed you, I don't think I'll be able to stop."

I look at him. "Than don't."

He leans in and our lips connect. He holds my face and wraps his arms around my waist. Our lips melt into each others and I smile. He pulls away, "Claire."

I lift his chin up, "Nick."

He groans and grabs my hands and brings my body into his lap. I giggle and wraps my arms around his neck. He bites my bottom lip and moves his lips to my neck.

I smile and close my eyes exposing my neck to him. He squeezes my hips and brings his lips back to mine.

My body is on fire. My heart beating out of my chest. The cold that once covered the tips of my fingers and arms are now gone.

I am completely overwhelmed by Nicholas Tomas.

He brings his hands up my hips and I look at him. He looks at me, "Sorry."

I shake my head, "No," I say out of breath, "It's okay." I wipe the light chapstick off of his lips.

He smirks, "Can't wait for Cole to hear all about this."

My heart drops.
