C L A I R E ⋆ E V E N S 

It's been a week since I talk to Nick or Zane. 

A full week. A full 7 days. 

I've been eating a lot of ramen, ice cream, and hiding away in Aubrey's house. 

It's been fun. 

"Claire. Go shower. We have to meet Natalie at Ruby's" She grins and adjusts her scarf. 

I shake my head, "You look like a mom." 

She smiles and spins, "I just got the scarf yesterday. Emmett bought it for me." 

I roll my eyes playfully and laugh, "New boy?" 

She hums and blushes sheepishly. 

I stand up folding the blanket on her couch, "I hope this one sticks." I smile gently. 

She smiles weakly, "Me too. God knows how many guys I've been through this past month." She rolls her eyes. 

I hum, "You should meet Tyler Finley." I smirk. 

She blushes a deep red. "Stop." 

I laugh, "I'm serious though. You guys were cute before he had to move."

She bites her lip and doesn't respond. She snaps her finger, "Shower. Now." 

I smile and nod, "Give me 15 minutes." I walk upstairs and get into the shower.

I put on some leggings and a pale sweater. I put on some converse and my hair into a messy bun. I hum to myself and walk downstairs smiling, "I'm ready!" 

Aubrey smiles at me grabbing her keys, "I love the sweater. It's very...fall." She laughs. 

I shake my head, "Come on, loser." 

We get into Aubrey's car and she turns on the heat. She reaches for the music and switches through a few stations before landing on one. 

I look through my phone humming gently to the music. Aubrey looks at me, "Have you talked to Zane?"

I bite my lip and look up slightly, "No..." I mumble. 

She doesn't say anything for a moment and nods, "Are you going to?"

I smile weakly and nod, "When the time comes."

"Okay." She says softly and pulls into a parking spot. We get out of her car and walk inside. It's busy, as always. Bussing workers walking around gathering cups. 

People circled around tables with laptops, books, and pencils. Others standing in line.

This place is way more comforting than Buckley's. 

I order my hot chocolate and sit down with Aubrey and Natalie. 

"Claire" Natalie grins at me.

I laugh and smile gently back, "Hmm?" 

"Zane's behind you," Aubrey mumbles and takes a sip of her coffee.

Gulp. 

Oh no. 

Not now. 

I smile weakly and turn around. "Hey."

My voice cracks.

This can't get any worse. 

Zane smiles forcefully and clenches his jaw. 

Oh.

I haven't seen-

"Can I talk to you?" He bites his cheek. 

I glance at Aubrey and Natalie. Aubrey smirks, "The time has come." She laughs. 

I close my eyes and look back at Zane smiling weakly, "Sure."

He sitting across from me. A blank expression. Awkward as ever. Hell, I just cheated on him. Well, not just cheated, it was 8 days ago that I made out with Nick on the beach. 

That's off-topic. 

I put my hand on my neck awkwardly and look at my lap. 

"I missed you." 

What?

"What?" I look up. 

He smiles and reaches over for my hand, "I missed you, Claire. I'm sorry for...freaking out on you. About...everything...I'm sorry. I trust you."

No. No. He was supposed to make this easy. 

"I love you, Claire," 

No. No. Fuck me. 

"We have to break up, Zane." I look at him. "I cheated on you with Nick."
