Chapter 21: More Than Words

❈ ⋯ ❈

To say I've never been to a party before would be a complete lie.

I've been to many.

But, college parties are just a bit different. A bit wilder. I wouldn't say it's a surprise college kids know how to get and sneak good booze successfully.

Natalie and Aubrey lead me towards the kitchen, and hand me a cup and fill it up with water.

I smile gently, "Thanks"

They grin, "You don't have to be drunk to get over a guy. Come on," Aubrey smiles, "Lets dance"

I laugh and follow them over to a group of people grinding and shimming all over each other.

There's something kind of therapeutic about dancing. I was everywhere. Free. The biggest smile on my face. Like everything that happened tonight just disappeared slowly.

Two guys come behind me and grab my hips dancing with me. I look at them and smile weakly, but continue dancing.

Aubrey pushes them away and moves back towards me, "Come on! I say beer pong!" She laughs and grabs my arm. Natalie follows us refilling her drink. Aubrey leads me towards the kitchen again and we gather in a cluster watching a few guys throw a ball into a cup laughing.

I smile gently and take a sip of my water and look at the boys, "Next game. I call it." I grin cheekily.

One of them laughs, "Hell, yeah. I like this girl already."

I grin and shrug, "I'm pretty liked."

They laugh and move out of the way motioning their arms for me to stand behind the table. I take a ball and look at my target. A bright red cup filled with disgusting beer.

I chuckle to myself and wait a bit before throwing it in. I grin as I watch the cup roll around the top of the cup and then go in. The boy on the other side takes a sip and the two boys grin at me.

"Damn, girl. You have quite a throw. What's your name?"

I smile, "Claire Evens. You two?"

The first boy looks at me, "Sebastian Folley, and that's Carter Stone. He's kinda dumb." Sebastian smiles charmingly and Carter waves to me sheepishly.

I smile back, "Nice to meet you. Thanks for letting me shoot."

Sebastian grins, "Of course. You have quite the arm."

I laugh and shake my head, "Kinda a professional."

He rolls his eyes playfully and smiles, "Oh, I'm sure."

Aubrey grabs my arm, "Hate to break up the romance but Claire we have a problem,"

I look at her, "What's wrong?"

She glances at Sebastian and looks back at me, "Nick's here." She sighs, "And he's...very drunk..."

I look at her, "So?"

"Claire," She bites her lip, "Just go help him. I know deep down you want too."

I sigh and hand her my drink.

I shouldn't be doing this.

I walk around the house.

"That's bullshit."

It's his voice. Only, raspier, definitely drunk. I turn around and he's sitting on the couch with a few girls. It hurts. That hurt a lot.

Why the hell do I care so much?

Fuck me.

I walk over to him and grab his hand.

That cracks me. His hand is so soft and warm. So comforting as it always has been. I don't look at him. I can't look him in the eyes.

"Claire," He giggles, "You look really pretty." He smiles and bats his eyelashes.

I look away. "Come on, I need to get you home."

He pouts, "Come onnn, let's dance. I wanna see Even's moves." He smirks.

I growled. Actually growled. I ignored him and helped him outside. I called an uber and sat him down. He groans and I sit down next to him. He lays his head on my shoulder and giggles, "You smell good."

I can say the exact same thing. His smell is overwhelming. It's comforting. It smells really good. I sigh and go on my phone.

He puts his hand over my phone and grins at me, "Come onnnn, pay attention to me. Gimme a kissy."

I roll my eyes.

This boy just doesn't stop.
