"How did you enjoy your first birthday party, Payton?"

Those are the only words that her parents kept asking her for the remainder of the day.

Those are the only words that taunt the little girl's mind all throughout the night.

The only thing that echoes all throughout her mind and room as she stares blankly out her window behind her.

She lays in bed tears streaming down her face remembering the worst birthday she has ever had.

Her eyes were stinging as she stared at the illuminating orange sky fade in black.

She scoffed silently her eyes red and glossy, as the sky reminded her of herself.

The orange representing the joy and glee she imagined her party to be, only to be replaced with a black sky, a depressing and lifeless party it turned out to be.

She cried all night thinking of this.

And, in the end, she cried herself to sleep.

Drowning her self in her own sorrow and tears.

Drenching her pillowcase,

which in the end became the one thing that comforted her.
