I don't like to think about the wars
I don't like to think about the
fear our soldiers must have felt
As they fought on foreign shores
I don't like to think about their families
Their children, their wives
I don't like to think about letters
That only brought them strife
I don't even like to watch the movies
I don't like to watch actors pretend to die
Because it's basis has truth
I can't help but cry
But I do think about it
Because it's a walk in the park
Compared to the sacrifices they made
Compared to the dark
Because no matter the pain I feel
How much it aches my heart
It will never be what they felt
If I tried to understand
I wouldn't know where to start
Because I could never understand
What it is to risk my life
To fight for your country
To do what's right
I will never be called on
To fight in a great world war
So though it brings me misery
Their lives I will not ignore
For I have them to thank
For all I am
For my freedom
For the life I've planned
So on this day
We all promise we won't forget
All the things our brave soldiers have done
So that our future will not be war torn
Another year of remembrance has begun.
