Chapter 36: Attention

•Annie's Pov•
i finished the last drop of my glass of milk and placed it in the sink.
i look over at hayley.
"hayley, joey's picking me up today. do you want a lift?"
hayley shook her head "im gonna take the bus with noah"
"okay, well have fun" i kiss her forehead and look at myself in the mirror before going outside.
i looked at my white blouse as i straightened my black mini skirt.

i grab my bag and walk outside, i take a deep breath as i wait for joey. i look at my phone, the time read 7:59am. joey
should be here any second. i hear a car pull up and honk, startling me a little.
i look up and see joey, with his sister sophia. she waves and hops out of the front seat and jumps in the back.
i run over to the passengers side and hop in.
"you didn't have to move, soph" i say softly.
"no it's okay, i honestly don't mind"
i nod and click my seatbelt in.
"everyone buckled up?" joey says, looking at each of us.
i nod as he drives off slowly.
we pull up at school and i really am worried about seeing hayden today since we only broke up yesterday and he'll be really mad.
joey looks at me "hey, you okay?" he whispers softly and i shrug.
we get out of the car and everyone looks at me, oh great more attention.
joey looks at me and notices how i'm feeling.
he puts his arm around my shoulder as we walk into school.
some people keep staring while others whisper.
"did you hear she broke up with hayden yesterday?"
"i can't believe she broke up with the captain of the football team"
"i'd kill to have the chance to date hayden summerall"
"i heard he was just protecting her and she decided to dump him"
"i heard she cheated on him with birlem and he broke up with her"
i roll my eyes as joey and i continue walking.
joey keeps walking as i stop by my locker to gather my things.
"hey.." i hear a shaky voice and turn around.
"mr summerall" i rudely say as i roll my eyes and turn back to my locker.
"please, annie. take me back, i'm such a dick and i messed up. i'm sorry and i still love you"
his 4 last words hit me.
hayden still loves me?!
i mean i do miss him but he wasn't treating me right.
"look!" i say slamming my locker and turning around.
"i really do miss you hayden but you didn't treat me right. how do i know you really loved me? i bet you cheated on me when we were dating"
i started at him waiting for a response.
nothing.
i raise an eyebrow.
"yeah, i thought so" i turn to walk away but hayden gently but tightly enough for me to stop grabs my wrist.
"you miss me?" he asks softly.
i nod "yeah.."
"do you miss this?" he says with a small smirk.
"miss what?" i say, confused.
hayden pins me to the locker, holding my wrists.
i closed my eyes for a moment and feel hayden's lips smashing onto mine, i can't help but kiss back.
i know it's wrong but it felt right.
oh shit, how am i going to tell joey?
"hayden, you need to move on"
"move on? you kissed back" he smirks.
"it was my old feelings, i had to get rid of"
hayden rolls his eyes "yeah, sure"
i don't respond.
"besides i couldn't help it, that outfits screaming for attention from me" he says so high of himself with a smirk.
i just roll my eyes "yeah, whatever. anyways i gotta go find joey. bye hayden, nice talking to you. i guess" i walk away, leaving hayden standing there. i head to joey's locker and he wasn't there. i look at the time and realised the bell must've rang when i was with hayden.
i started running to my first class, drama.
they weren't in the classroom so i figured they'd be in the main hall, which is just a big wooden building with a stage and props and stuff.
mr sorenson tells me that we have to be in groups of four.
"i'll just join that group and make a group of three"
he nodded "alright, that's fine"
i walked over to the group and was greeted by max and harvey.
"hey guys" i smile softly.
"hey, jules" max said, high-fiving me.
"juli, hello" harvey said, giving me a side hug.
"you okay, we heard about hayden" harvey said, hugging me a little tighter.
i sighed "i'll be okay, i actually just had an encounter with hayden in the halls"
they nodded "okay, so we're doing a scene where we're in an airport and one of us is getting patted down"
i nod "i'll get patted down, i guess"
"aight" max said.
we started practicing and we're soon interrupted.
"ugh, what do you want hayden?" i roll my eyes.
"teach, said i'm joining your group" he smirks.
"okay, whatever. you better pick the scene up quickly"
"yeah, yeah" he rolls his eyes.
max, harvey and i showed him the scene.
"i'll be the guy who pats you down"
of course he wants too.
"uh.."
"it's alright, we'll watch him" harvey whispers in my ear.
"thanks" i whisper back.
we practiced the scene and hayden wasn't doing too bad.
"alright, everyone present your performance to the class!" the teacher calls out.
"let's go first!" max calls out.
the teacher tells us to go onto the stage.

i walk into the airport, looking at my two best friends.
they both glance a smile as we go through security check.
we put our bags on the pretend machine as they go through.
we collect our bags and walk through the body scanner.
max goes first and is clear.
next goes harvey and no beep.
then i go through and it beeps.
"miss, i'm going to need to see you over here" hayden, the worker calls.
i nod "of course"
i walk over to hayden as he uses the scanner around my body.
"turn around, please" i turn, my back facing hayden.
he shoves his hand up my skirt.
"all good here" he smirks, i look at him shocked and max and harvey are just as surprised as i am.
"end scene!" harvey shouts as we run off stage.

"hayden, what the fuck bro!" max shouts.
harvey punches his arm "that wasn't in the script"
"i thought it would fit perfectly"
"yeah for you, you embarrassed me in front of the whole class" i say, angrily.
harvey hugs me and i lay my head in his chest.
"hayden, i think it's best if you leave" max says, pushing him away.
"dude, i thought we were all friends and now you defend her?" hayden calls out, mad.
harvey let's go off me and storms up to hayden.
"leave!" he says with his teeth gritting together.
the next thing i know harvey is on the ground and hayden's sitting on him, throwing punches.
harvey catches them all.
max tries to get hayden off but he won't budge.
max goes and grabs the teacher.
"hayden, stop" i cry softly, as he throws punches.
"no! shut up and enjoy the show"
"hayden, you're hurting him" i lay on hayden's back trying to pull him off.
"please, stop" i whisper softly.
he smirks "fine" he then leaves.
"harvey, are you okay?!" i ask worried and help him sit up, hugging him.
"i-i'm fine, just a few cuts and bruises. don't worry about it"
max comes back "man, i'm so sorry i couldn't get him off, he's so strong"
"it's okay, bud" harvey says looking up at him.
—end of day—
i haven't seen joey to much today, i hope he's alright.
the final bell rings and i go and look for sophia.
"hey, soph!" i run to her locker.
"have you seen joey?" i ask worriedly.
she shakes her head "nope"
"there he is!" i run to him, almost knocking him over.
"i was worried" i whisper as he rubs my back, hugging me.
"i'm sorry you were worried. i'm okay"
he smiles and all three of us walk to his car.
joey drops me off at my house.
"bye soph" i hug her.
"bye jules" she smiles, hugging me back.
"heyyy, what about me?" joey pouts.
i walk to his side of the car and kiss him on the cheek.
"bye joey" i blush as i wave goodbye and walk inside.
i turn on netflix and watch friends for a while.
