CHAPTER NINE:

"back to your seat." coach said blowing the whistle.

the lacrosse team were on the bus for a competition.

"yo, scotty. hey, yo, scotty? still with me?" stiles asked him.

"yeah, sorry. uh, what's the word?" scott asked.

"anachronism." stiles said reading it off his ipad.

"something that exists out of it's normal time." scott replied.

"nice. okay, next word incongruous." stiles said.

"um, can you use it in a sentence?" scott asked.

"yes. yes, i can. it's completely incongruous that we're sitting on a bus right now, on our way to some stupid cross country meet after what just happened incongruous." stiles said.

"out of place, ridiculous, absurd." scott replied.

"perfect. okay, next word. um, darach. darach, it's a noun." stiles said and scott gave him a look.

"we have to talk about it sometime, okay? and we're gonna be stuck in this thing for, like, five hours, so why not?" stiles ranted but scott just put his head against the window.

"next word. intransigent." stiles said.

"stubborn, obstinate." scott said.

scott then let out a groan once the bus hit a bump.

"oh, buddy, are you okay?" stiles asked and he let out a small 'yeah'.

"we shouldn't have come. i knew it. we shouldn't have come." stiles said.

"we had to. there's safety in numbers." scott replied.

"yeah, well, there's also death in numbers, okay? it's called a massacre, or bloodbath, carnage, slaughter, butchery, wow, that's..." stiles stopped when he heard scott groan again.

"all right, scott, i'm telling coach to pull over." stiles said.

"no. no, no, no. i'm all right." scott told him.

"well, you don't look all right. would you just let me see it?" stiles asked but scott pushed him away.

"i'm okay." scott said again.

"just let me see it." stiles said.

"okay." scott said lifting his shirt up to show the claw marks on his side.

"oh, dude-" stiles said.

"i know it's bad, but it's because they're from an alpha. it'll take longer to heal." scott replied.

"how come boyd and isaac are fine then?" stiles asked but scott didn't reply.

"i can't believe he's dead. i can't believe derek's dead." scott said.
