Klaus' POV

Computers go frantically on my command and there are more hands on it than there ever has been. In my room, this particular room where I do most of my work in, I take no chances in fate. I don't believe in second guesses or thirds. I don't do anything that will put me in jeopardy. And I don't fuck up. Ever. Which puts me out here keeping strict eyes on my men. I don't want any mistakes.

Maya is out there when danger is in the brinks of looming around a lot quicker than anticipated. My trackers inside her are enough to let us know everything that is going on. But they pose a threat. They can be destroyed when found. They can cause pain when messed around with. And I will not have that happen. These trackers are important to me. They will keep me sane.

No one knows where she's going which is why it's hard for me to look away from the screens. One blink of an eye and I can lose a lot. There's thick tension here. It's been four hours since she's left me. My heart is in my fucking throat and my stomach is in knots. Anything could go wrong here. The little red dot on the map could disappear from the radar. My phone rings and I pick it up without looking away from the map. I don't speak first.

"There is some sort of an agreement here. We're meeting in Denver in less than three hours. His men will come pick Maya up." Tyler's voice is thick with tension. I can feel a massive headache brewing in my head. I rub my face in frustration. Fucking Denver. Bastard knows what he's doing. If anything goes wrong I'm not there to protect her and this notion stirs something dark inside me. But I know she's safe with my boys.

"Your car will follow her."

"No car is allowed to follow her, Klaus. That was the agreement which is why we put the trackers in her on the first place," Tyler says. I run my hand across my face in frustration again.

"You will do as I say! Follow her!" I roar.

"Klaus, we will never get Kayla back like that. These were the terms. We hand Maya to them and they will bring Kayla back safely," Matt reasons. Before I can blow up on him, Maya speaks on the other line. Bloody hell they put me on speaker.

"It's okay, Klaus. I'll be okay. The trackers remember? And I won't let anything happen to Kayla. I promise." From the other sides, she struggling but she's calm. From my side I hide nothing. I'm frustrated, and beyond angry to say anything back. My adrenaline is rushing through my veins and I'm ready for a fight. I'm ready to let my lava burst which is why I hang up on her without uttering a single word back to her. I'm afraid I'll say something that will ruin all of this for her. I make no mistakes here.

Then how did I end up making this one?

I put my eyes where it should be. On the screen. The dot moves rapidly across the map. Salvatore, criminal fucking mastermind, wants Maya to him before he releases Kayla. What are the fucking chances that he will keep up to his words? Zilch. I fucked up.

I fucked up! Maya, my poor naive Maya. She shouldn't have done this. I could have gotten to Kayla one way or the other. How did I forget to tell her that I held nothing against her for her father's crimes anymore? And it's then I realize what it all comes to now. Maya's promises are nothing if she's dead. And Salvatore is not going to keep up to his words. I take the phone and dial Tyler. He picks up in two rings.

"Abort the mission. Turn around NOW! This is an order. I do not authorize this mission to proceed. Take me off the speaker phone and turn around!" I command. There's no way in hell I'll let Maya get to Denver. I'll get to Anna with plan B.

"Klaus—"

"I know Salvatore. He's not going to keep up to his words. I don't want any arguments here, Tyler. Do as you're told."

"Klaus—"

"What?!" I roar.

"We got a problem." I recognize that voice. That voice rarely comes through. Something's wrong. I look at the screen to make sure the trackers are still intact. The dot is moving but slowly. The veins in my head throb painfully. Tension rises.

"Define problem?" I stop myself from blowing up. I hold the chair with a deadly grip until my knuckles turn white. Tyler is quite for a second. The dot on the map stops moving.

"We're surrounded." Surrounded. The word makes my grip tighten and the wood crackles before the chair breaks. I'm fuming. I'm shaking in fiery rage.

"There's three cars behind you that's ours," I speak, deadly calm.

"And there's eight of theirs in front of us." I throw the chair across the room until it hits one of the computers and the screen cracks with the force.

"Goddammit!" This can't be happening. I'm too fucking far away. He double crossed us! I will fucking kill him, I swear to God, he will die a very painful death.

"Keep them talking. Keep me on the line." I turn towards one of my man and signal him to call local force. I hear rustling and doors opening on the back.

"I want words, Tyler. Talk," I demand.

"What's going on here, fellas?" Matt speaks. Keep them talking, Matt.

"We're here for her," an unfamiliar voice speaks.

"We decided we were meeting in Denver. So, why the chaos?" Matt says.

"Change of plans. Give her to us and you guys are free to go." Bull-fucking-shit. I get a thumbs up from behind me.

"We need to hear from Kayla first. Where is she?"

"She's where she's supposed to be. She will see you guys as long as you cooperate. Give Maya to us." I hear guns cocking.

"Our men will follow suit then. You give Anna to us safely and we will give you Maya. Do not try to double cross us."

"I'm afraid that's not going to happen." Motherfucker.

"Get out of there, Tyler. It's a trap!" I speak through the phone.

"That's what's about to happen right now. Fuck that." And that's when I hear it. Gunshots. I hear Maya screaming on the background then her voice gets closer.

"Klaus! Klaus, they're going to—" the phone line goes dead. And I crush the phone in my hand.

"Salvatore!" I roar before running out the door. I will find you bastard. And you will wish I never did.

I will fucking kill each and every one of you for double crossing me.
